Your PVA prefit experience

It's important for everyone to remember, there is still raw-material variation and tolerance stacking even with quality tools/suppliers/and work. In the modern world, we don't always see the industry equibliriate with a process that QCs to a 0.00% failure rate, its more economical to have 98 or 99 or 99.9 % etc standard (ie "good enough"), which means occasionally you will need to warranty a part or a service. This seem to be true even with higher-grade brands and product grades.

Bohem, what can you tell us about the WTL actions that you offer for barreled actions? How do they compare to the Solus? Also, will you be offering barreled actions with their action that doesn’t use a trigger hanger? Thanks in advance. Just trying to figure out what direction I want to go for the Black Friday sales.
Sure, I'll put something together and get some more photos in this thread. It's a non-trigger hanger version of the Solus attributes. It's also a really well built action, the headspace is tighter than the Aero's and they feel better to me.

What’s your current non-rush delivery estimates for RimX prefits?

Thanks
8 weeks, sometimes a little faster.

Was hoping to come here and tell yall how great my 18” carbon osprey in 25 creed shoots, but that doesn’t seem to be the case, at least not so far. Finally got a chance to go to the range today as my atx just got back from the smith’s. Got set up at the range and shot about a 1.5 moa 5 shot group @ 100 yards. Thought no big deal it’ll settle in after about 10 rounds. Let the rifle cool, and repeated with same results. Did this 5 times with the same results with the factory 134 elm’s. Thought maybe I had missed a step installing the barrel so broke it loose and retorted everything, even removed anything I thought might be contacting it. Shot a 2 moa group after that with factory 128 Eldx. By this point I’m pretty bummed and wondering if it’s just an off day for me so I grabbed my Geissele GFR and shot a .6 moa 5 shot group.

Not sure what to do at this point, going to check torque on the rifle chassis and see if something is off and if so I’ll shoot it again to confirm accuracy. If it won’t shoot I’ll ship it back to pva and see what they say. Really sucks as I sent them a box of factory Eldm and Eldx for them to measure when they were chambering the barrel. I guess the factory AI barrels have spoiled me a bit with factory ammo. Will update with my findings/results as I dig into this issue.
There's a lot of potential things that can happen here. Based on reading through the thread it sounds like there's more than just the barrel to be suspect about. Before we write off the barrel and replace it there's some testing that needs to happen and we'll be happy to walk you through it.

ETA: Ben just mentioned to me that he's replied to you, so we'll take the support offline rather than clog up a thread.

Currently our failure rate for blanks that end up in customer hands and the blank is bad is 1:337 or 99.703% pass rate. There's no such thing as a 0% failure rate in any industry, but with mechanical items anything above 95% is an exceptionally good FTQ number. We don't aim for the idea that "it's good enough" ever, but rather when something does happen we do our best to take care of it.

Since several folks mentioned "we're watching"

I spoke with @CStroud this morning for about 20 minutes and we have a solid plan moving forward once he gets the replacement parts for his scope mount.

Good speaking with you @bohem.

Badger just emailed, and they are sending me a new clamp rail, hopefully it will be here by this weekend so I can shoot again and we can get this thing sorted out. I plan on shooting at the house rather than going to the range so I can actually get pics of the groups without worrying about being shot in the rear lol.

Finally got a break from work to drag out my 7prc pva/cdg, 1125yds with 184gr berger/h1000@3050fps. This thing hammers and vertical is unreal.

 Damn, dude.... want a work-study job testing rifles? :ROFLMAO:

Awesome shooting!

That reminds me of something we got from a guy in Canada recently. This is 51 shots with his Osprey 6 something, a Dasher maybe?... ES 25, SD is 5.7

I confirmed it with him, it was indeed a 51 shot string. I asked him about the speed and he said "I don't care how fast it is when it shoots like this"

Does it pay in barrels? Lol

Yeh, plan on calling or emailing tomorrow when I know they’re open.
They will get you taken care of. I had to send mine back in the spring and although it was a little frustrating after spending so much on a barrel mistakes happen and PVA made things right and made it easy to deal with. If you do suspect somethings up I'd reach out to them and they will help you find a solution.

Over the past year we have been tooling and testing for 8 twist 6.5mm blanks. I still like the 7.5 better for everything (just like I'm a big proponent of the 6mm 7tw) but one of our OEM contracts pushed for it and we've obliged. I can now advertise that the 8 twist 6.5mm Ospreys are available and we have them on the shelf as of RFN.

The very few orders where we can switch twists for folks have already been called and confirmed, if we didn't call you about an option to switch then it's not available. Going forward, all new orders are able to pick all 3 options.

I get asked all the time what the benefit is:

The 8twist is here due to market momentum. The 7.5 twist does everything that the 8 twist does and does it AT LEAST as well, but there are lots of people who feel they need the 8 so we made it.

I've used 8tw forever in 6mm with 6br to 243AI, never had an issue or reduced bc with 107smk or 105vld & hybrids. I did have 2 identical barrels(as much as possible with 2 barrels), same chamber same length and contour and maker. 1 was an 8tw and the other a 7tw, the 7tw shower pressure at lower velocity than the 8tw(same bullet, brass, powder, and primer). This is anecdotal, but unless I'm gonna shoot something heavier than a 108, I stick with 7.5 or 8tw.

The performance improvement that I saw was only generated when shots went past 1s of flight time. At 1200yd I got much tighter waterlines on 6.5's and 6's especially as temps dropped and the DA's approached 0.

I can see that, my DA is usually 1500+ when I get to shoot. Can I ask thoughts on why watermark held better, more gyroscopic stability?

I think it's due to the fact that the additional stability will keep it off the edge a little longer, it's overcompensating the magnus effects. We saw the same thing with 168 SMK's by speeding up the twist rate from 11.5 down to a 9 twist and then they would go through the sound barrier.

Do you have a pic of that rifle? I've been thinking of getting a taperless for a light weight yote rifle, for when the carbon proof dies.

This is how it currently sits. Barrel was 2 lb 9oz. rifle with 3rd flush mag (no bipod )is 8lbs 14oz (26oz scope)

Attached is a pic of it in a stock that shows the contour a little better

First off, I want to start this post off with an apology to @bohem and PVA. I’m sorry if I caused any negative impact on your business with my posts I made in this thread. I cleaned most all of them up and will move forward with this one.

TLDR: barrel shoots great with Eagle Eye ammo!

I ordered some Eagle Eye ammo last week in 25 creed since I’d been having accuracy issues with using factory Hornaghey. Turns out it was all Hornaghey’s fault after all. The Eagle Eye is pricy at almost $3/round, but I’m used to that having shot 300 Norma for a while. Group pic below. I shot all six rounds I took with me in this one group since after mounting my scope my boresight job was close enough. Pretty wild going from 1.5 moa with hornaghey to almost .5 moa with ammo using the same bullet.

Great news and it definitely shows how much dispersion a slight change in a few components can make (powder and brass) even with the same bullet/barrel. I'd def look into handloading if you haven't already. You can get started for about $600 and make that back in savings fairly quickly at $3/round for factory ammo. I have an equipment list I can share with you if you want

I have reloaded before, but I don’t consider myself OCD enough to be great at it. I have the majority of what I need besides powder and dies for this caliber. I usually just reload the magnums I’ve shot in the past and bought factory for the volume calibers mostly due to time constraints. Who knows though, I may get back into it.

For what it’s worth I noticed almost immediately that the 25cm was not as easy to tune as the x47. Pretty much anything I throw at x47 with a Berger 135 is in the .3’s and lower. So .5 with eagle eye is great. They make good ammo, but at the end of the day it obviously isn’t tuned for that barrel. Is eagle eyes ammo loaded with a Berger or Hornady?

Also, what velocity are you at with it?

They have both Berger and hornaghey and this was the 134 eldm because they were out of Bergers. I did not check velocity tonight just wanted to see if it would shoot. I’ll check velocity this weekend though.
I have heard the 134 is good, but the Berger is definitely better. Totally could be the polar opposite in your barrel tho. Curious where your at on speed. Mine likes around 2870 if I remember right but I’d have to look at notes.

Just looked back over the chrono numbers from the first time I shot this barrel with the hornady ammo and it was averaging 2632 over the first 20 shots with an SD of 12. I'll check the Eagle Eye ammo this weekend.

Also I'd like to reiterate what a great job of communication and brainstorming PVA did during this factory ammo crisis. Josh actually ordered bullets and a bushing and was going to load me some ammo to see if we could get it shooting. That's a level of customer service that I have not received in this industry... ever. It doesn't appear we have to go that route now, but it's great knowing that the support was there if I needed it.

An SD of 12 is actually pretty decent with factory ammo. Was also curious if you could put 10 rounds of eagle eye in a mag and put 10 rounds of Hornady in another. Grab a mag blindly and shoot it. Then shoot the other. With the velocity differences you should know which is which. Compare groups. I’d like to see them.

Switching ammo back to back is a recipe for the second group to be sub-par.

I'm glad you have a culprit, not knowing what's happening with it is maddening. If you need further support please let me know.

I guess ya I did not think while typing that. Since it’s not same everything except powder charge or seating depth. Nvm. Excuse my ignorance.

But I would be curious after say 100 rounds down the tube, what the Hornady stuff does.
