Hunting & Fishing Elk Hunting with a Handgun 2013

Wow! Nice job both of you. I hunted cow elk with a handgun a couple years ago here in AZ but couldn't score. I had to break out the -06 to close the deal. I've taken 2 bulls during archery season, but a handgun elk is still high on my bucket list. I like your Ruger also, I have a blued version...

You make a good point jd. Thanks for the reply. They do look nice, I guess they would be a good replacement if you broke one somehow.

    Bell and Carlson for Tikka

There doesn't seem to be much out there by way of after market stocks for the Tikkas. Does anybody have one on their T-3 hunter, lite etc? Did you notice difference in accuracy? Are they worth the $$. I have not been able to see one in person, but they do seem more rigid than the factory Tikka...

New Tikka T3 lite stainless, what rings and base?

As mentioned above, the Talley mounts are tough to beat. I have them on my T3 .30-06 and they are rock solid.

Hunting & Fishing First Hunting Rifle and need advice on caliber and models.

Since you like the Savages, take a look at the 116's. My son bought one in .300WSM and I helped him develop a load for it with ease. It shoots incredibly well with 180gr Accubonds over H4831. Like mentioned above, it will hammer anything on this continent even at considerable distances.

    260 remington lead free bullets

I have a Savage 116 in .260. It shoots the Barnes 127gr LRX amazingly well using H4350 and Fed Match primers. It will drop anything you have in California.

Hunting & Fishing Concealed carry when hunting??

I think it is a good idea. You never know when it will come in handy. Better to have it not need it than the other way around.

    7mm shooters - prepare to be f*cked!

I was just in the Sportsman's Warehouse thinking I need to start shooting 7mm. There are all kinds of 7mm bullets and no .22 or .30 cal to be found. Very little 6.5mm as well. They might be all gone next week when the word gets out...

You did a great job on your build sir! You definitely did your homework and it looks like you have a shooter there. You also did a great job on posting all the details before and after. I think you will be very happy with your choice in caliber, I know from experience that the .260 works well...

Hunting & Fishing 260 rem vs. black bear????

I think a .260 Would be just fine. I dropped a 300+ pound cow elk in her tracks with a Barnes 127 gr. LRX at 150 yds with mine.

I put a limbsaver on my T-3 Lite .30-06 and it alone makes a big difference. I can shoot it off the bench no problem. Way worth it for me.
