Lee Classic Cast Turret: Loading Precision Ammo

For a while now I've done all of my loading on a Lee Classic Cast Turret, and did all of my .308 loading on a single stage. Circumstances have changed, and I've finally moved to a house with a garage and built myself a workbench. I built it 4' long and I'm planning to keep 2 presses on it. I...

Brass prep? Drill press vs station?

Interesting points about the FA cutter. I would never spend the kind of money it takes to get a Giraud. But I've chased the functionality using possom hollow trimmers. The FA seems very affordable, and while all the cutting steps are separate, they can all be done handling each piece of brass...

    Powder choice ?

When I'm looking to load a new caliber, I start by asking the community around me. What works well, is accurate, relatively easy to get etc. After that I will usually reference manuals to confirm any charge weight advice given to me and start working up

    308 Winchester load development help

41.9 to 42.5 is a 1.5% difference in max loads. I wouldn't be concerned loading to any of those numbers. Sometimes you'll find 1 manual is ~5% lower than others. That can really get in your head. Doesn't hurt to check every piece of brass for pressure signs as you shoot them. You've only got a...

    308 Winchester load development help

I find the Hornady manual to be quite conservative, so I usually run with the Lyman manual recommendations. When that isn't available, I go with powder manufacturers. How much do the loads between the manuals vary? If you use the highest one and reduce by 10%, I'm sure you'd be in a safe range...

    308 guru's

Re: 308 guru's If you settle the powder, either by drop tube or vibrating the cases, you will fit much more powder before getting compression.

A ny Advice Before I Shoot At My Chrono?

Re: A ny Advice Before I Shoot At My Chrono? Something I've seen but never tried. Tape your target just behind or attached to the poles of the rear diffuser, with the center 4-5" above the sensor. Use that as a point of aim. won't exactly work if you want 100 yard groups though.

Savage 10FCP LE .308 Seat Depth Question

Re: Savage 10FCP LE .308 Seat Depth Question My old Savage 10fp had a 175SMK into the lands at 2.810". Federal GMM175 was .001" off the lands by my comparator reading.

6.8 SPC FC head stamp Wierd Primer SIze

Re: 6.8 SPC FC head stamp Doesn't fit as in the pocket is too small? I have heard this is small rifle brass, perhaps with a crimp? Obviously, if the pocket is larger than a small primer, it must be a large. There are only two options.

    Stainless Steel Media Testimonials

Re: Stainless Steel Media Testimonials Anybody figured out or had problems with nickel brass turning black? I did a load of 9mm nickel brass, and it is partially stained black. I feel like I'd done some in with a batch of regular brass before and it came out fine.

Gunsmithing AR15barrels.com Contact info ...Finally Got it!!!

Re: AR15barrels.com Contact info Came upon this thread on a google search. Randall gave me a 6week wait time on an upper I sent to him 8 weeks ago. Three attempts at getting updates have resulted in no-response. The odd part is, he was very good about replying to messages when I was trying...

    Stainless Steel Media Testimonials

Re: Stainless Steel Media Testimonials It may have been said a thousand times, but I just started this stainless thing and my lord...smoothest, shiniest cleanest cases I've ever seen. Do they shoot better? I don't know, but they sure are smooth through the press.

    My gun hates lapua brass?

Re: My gun hates lapua brass? Lol, get em glowing. I maybe went a little light on em. They aren't quite as blued and silvery as lake city 5.56, but they were clearly annealed, and had that..feeling. Idk how to phrase it, but different than normal brass.

    My gun hates lapua brass?

Re: My gun hates lapua brass? I'll let you now how the annealing goes. I'm hitting the range one saturday, I think I'll be shooting the annealed cases then. The annealing has made some difference. I do my .308 loading on a hand press. It used to be a WHORE to get these sized. After the...

    My gun hates lapua brass?

Re: My gun hates lapua brass? I tried the candle method tonight, but I'm not satisfied it really annealed it. They felt a bit easier to size, but it might be my imagination. So I'm going to buy a torch head tomorrow and give it a good try. Extracting a loaded round is easy as pie. I'll look...

    My gun hates lapua brass?

Re: My gun hates lapua brass? I don't...quite follow how that would cause sticking issues. I have a non-bushing die, so I'm not sure that would be an issue anyways. I tried a super non-scientific annealing process at home. The cases were noticeably easier to size. I'm not really all that...
