Bullet depth. Seating the bullet for accuracy.

I've tried a variety of things, but most recently I have been determining the powder charge and then experimenting with seating depth in a very similar manner to that article I posted above. I've had very good results and have been able to find the "sweet spot" without burning up too much...

Puttting powder in other containers, what kind and who sells

I think I would tell them that if they want to purchase some of my powder, they will need to bring an empty powder container to put it in. I think that most people who reload probably have good enough sense to know that they will need to clearly label the container so they'll know what's in it.

    Let's talk about precision reloading

I've been experimenting with the seating depth variable in a couple of bolt rifles with a couple of different bullets in each. I like to run the same tests several times, just to satisfy myself that no shooter error is skewing my results. In my opinion, seating depth is definitely something that...

Hunting & Fishing Just bought a new rifle was it worth the $

I'm not familiar with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation edition, but for 600 bucks I'm guessing that your friend did not rip you off. As for referencing values, I usually go to gunbroker and search the completed auctions to get an idea of what they sell for.

Hunting & Fishing Needing help with Ticks!

Back when I was a kid, we had ticks BAD on my family's property in central Texas. That was before the fire ant invasion of the late 70's/early 80's that quickly put the tick population in check, so now they are not too bad. Anyway, I spent a lot of time out in the woods when I was a kid and I...

Hunting & Fishing .308 for midsize game????

For the past few seasons, I have done 90% of my deer and hog hunting with 168gr Amax in .308. Almost all of them have been pinpoint precise shots and the animals have fallen over dead in their tracks. I did hit a buck a little far forward in the shoulder last year and he ran a very short...

Hunting & Fishing They're still here in December!

I consider myself quite knowledgeable on the subject, but certainly no guru. However, the man I studied under might be considered a guru so I feel somewhat informed after having experienced his guidance. I have no further desire to argue snakes with you, so perhaps I'll run across you on more...

Hunting & Fishing They're still here in December!

B Man...It's ok...nothing to get so worked up over. I now understand that your original comment was sarcasm and that I had misunderstood that. I did not apologize for anything other than not catching the sarcasm. As many misleading things as I've heard people claim about snakes, I just figured...

Hunting & Fishing They're still here in December!

Not so much a mission as just clarifying the truth when the subject happens to arise. Years ago, I had an intense interest in rattlesnakes, but don't think much about them nowadays. At one time, I kept large numbers of them in cages in my house and would drop the temp to put them into brumation...

Hunting & Fishing They're still here in December!

The sarcasm wasn't clear, B Man. I've heard people make all sorts of claims about what snakes can or can't do, so I figured that was just another of the old wives tales being perpetuated. Where I live, rattlesnakes are common enough that we see them daily in the warm months and from time to time...

Hunting & Fishing They're still here in December!

. Back when I was working on my masters degree in Biology, I did extensive work with venomous snakes, especially Texas rattlesnake species. I have frequently seen them active during the winter, and yes, they will bite the shit out of you in December!

Hunting & Fishing help me choose caliber/gun

Years ago, I was at the same place as OP, looking for a rifle that would be a good all-around hunting gun and also allow me to experiment with long range. The caliber I chose was .308 and it has not disappointed. Since then, I have expanded my collection to include numerous other calibers and...

Where to find powders in stock

Powder was pretty scarce in my local gun store for a while, but they have started to have more on the shelf for the past couple of months. In fact, they got in 30 of the one pound cans of Varget about 6 weeks ago and there were still some on the shelf until just a few days ago. They've had...

Hunting & Fishing Upset with silvertips performance.

I hit a 250lb feral hog square in the shoulder at 50 yards with a 150gr Silvertip in .308 last weekend. I just skinned it and took the backstraps, shoulders and hams without ever opening up the body cavity, so I don't know how it looked inside. However, there was a clean entrance hole through...

    removal of upside down primers

Thanks for the replies. I just talked with one of my friends who has been reloading for many years and I asked him about this. He said he just uses the re-sizing die and de-primes them when this happens. He said he usually throws a towel over the whole thing while he does it, just in case, but...

    removal of upside down primers

Back before I purchased a hand priming tool, I was using the priming arm on my Rock Chucker and had a recurring problem with primers flipping in the priming cup as I was seating them. As a result, I now have a collection of 338LM Lapua brass with improperly seated primers. Some are sideways and...

Hunting & Fishing El Paso Hunts?

I live about 200 miles (which is not far at all in this part of the world) southeast of El Paso, in the Big Bend region of Texas. I've been here for 28 years now and have been lucky enough to have friends who own ranches or work on ranches and allow me to hunt on their property. At times in the...

    New Sponsor - Bullets.com

They had an item in stock that I was looking for so I placed an order and, 4 business days later, the box was on my doorstep. Price was reasonable and shipping cost was low. I will definitely check their site whenever I'm looking to purchase something.

Please explain .22 hoarding to me????

I don't buy cheap bulk 22lr because I don't like the way it shoots, so I choose to spend a little more and purchase quality ammo. However, I am frequently seeing bulk 22 going for 35-40 bucks a brick online and sometimes less. If I had a desire to hoard that stuff or shoot it, I don't think...
