    Kestrel?

Sounds like the Kestrel can wait. I use JBM all the time & am going to get Strelok on my phone. Is there a decent wind meter that is not too pricey? I know that I need to learn how to read wind, but am thinking that some handheld device may help me do that.

    Kestrel?

Just beginning to get into PRS. Thinking about getting a Kestrel 5700 but am wondering if I need it at this stage. Not so much worried about being competitive as I want to do whatever I can to improve my ability to learn. Also, are there cheaper alternatives that are worthwhile?

Suppressor vs. Muzzle Brake for PRS

One other impediment is that some states do not allow suppressors. I hail from PA. NY & NJ matches cannot be shot with suppressors. My thought is local matches & when in suppressor friendly states - use a suppressor. In the commie land states use a muzzle brake along with double ears. Not...

Suppressor vs. Muzzle Brake for PRS

I agree about the concussion. For me it's about saving my hearing. I'm 57 and been shooting for a long time and been around chainsaws, farm equipment etc. my entire life. PRS matches I'll be wearing double ears as 99% are using brakes. When I practice, it will be nice to use just a set of muffs.

Suppressor vs. Muzzle Brake for PRS

I know that suppressors reduce recoil somewhat, but not as much as a brake. For PRS shooting will a suppressor make it significantly harder? I want to preserve my hearing, and with a muzzle brake would be using double ears. I know that specifics matter - which suppressor, which muzzle brake...

    Vortex Razor or Nightforce NX8?

I need to get a scope that will be used primarily for PRS shooting. I am between a Vortex Razor Gen II 4.5-27 & the Nightforce NX8 4-32 F1. they both in the same price range. By the numbers, the Nightforce seems to win - lighter (by 16 oz.), more magnification range. The Nightforce has a...

PTG DBM - R700 LA Military style vs. M5 style

I just ordered a PTG DBM for my 300WM R700. My rifle has a B&C M40 stock. I thought that I ordered a military style but received a M5. On their website they say that the M5 WILL require inletting but that the military style is designed as a drop in for BDL stocks. My rifle was a Long Range...

    Remington 700 .308 PSS

That was a nice video - I really enjoyed that.

300WM Barrel Life with soft loads

I got a 308 that I absolutely love. Beginning to shoot PRS w/ my son, and am already in the process of building up a 300WM. So I need another rifle & would rather spend the money on getting my 300WM set up, rather than another 308. Although I will use my 300WM "the way it was intended", that...

300WM Barrel Life with soft loads

I thought about that, but not sure that it 100% works that way. In my 308, 178 gr. bullets w/ 43.0 grains of varget get me 2525 FPS out of my 20" R700. The max bullet weight that Hogdon has varget data for is 168 gr. They have a starting load of 54 grains (2,795 fps) and a max. of 58.2...

300WM Barrel Life with soft loads

If the 300WM is loaded to low levels, will barrel life go up significantly. Still burning a lot of powder at low loads. I'm talking about really low loads like 178 gr. at 2700 FPS.

    R700 Long Range (84164) Modifications

I have a Remington 700 Long Range in 300 WinMag that I want to turn into a budget precision rifle. I will leave the barreled action alone. The barrel has a 26" varmint profile w/ a 1:10 twist. It has a B&C M40 stock on it which I built up the pistol grip on (w/ Devcon) so simulate the grip on...

Looking for other Remington 700 owners

Quoted for truth. There are a ton of 1/4 moa all day long rifle out there based on the best three round groups the rifle/shooter ever made. If you shout 5 groups of 5 and the average of all the groups is .75 moa - you got a GREAT rifle & shooter.

Shoot 0.005" Jam Loads or seat Bullet Deeper?

Good to hear. That's kind of what I figured, but wanted a reality check. So, w/ these loads if I increase bullet jump, the pressure should drop. Does the velocity decrease as well w/ bullet jump?

Shoot 0.005" Jam Loads or seat Bullet Deeper?

A while back I loaded up for my Remington 700 300 WinMag. I loaded 212 ELD-X bullets with various H1000 charges. Trying to break in the rifle while doing a ladder. Yes I know this is a compromise, but want to play around with my LabRadar as well. Anyway, I seated the bullets by feel...

Suppressors Optimal length for 300 BLK

And that is the difference - you want a pistol and I want a precision rifle. And no, i don't have specific data for each inch of barrel length and it's affect on velocity with supers. In general, longer means faster. 300 blk was designed to be efficient out of short barrels, so it's a game of...

Suppressors Optimal length for 300 BLK

Yes, some people need pictures... Same concept as what I am talking about except I will attach the shroud to the barrel, not the upper. I don't want a dedicated upper as the host is a Sig MPX. I do not want to give up the interchangeable barrel capability. In addition, I have to believe that...

Suppressors Optimal length for 300 BLK

Yes, a permanent shroud that the suppressor would fit inside of, thus the suppressor would fit inside the shroud and thus not add to the length. With a 9" barrel and 7" shroud length the overall length would meet the 16" requirement w/ or without the suppressor. With a 9" suppressor, 2" would...

Suppressors Optimal length for 300 BLK

So you can shoot your pistol (without a stock to keep it legal) as accurately as a rifle? How much more velocity would a 16" barrel have over a shorter barrel (9" or 11") especially w/ the heavier (higher BC) bullets? The reason I want to shorten the barrel is that I plan on shooting mostly...

Suppressors Optimal length for 300 BLK

I will be cutting down my 16” barrel on my 300BLK Sig MPX and permanently installing a shroud to keep the ‘barrel length’ over 16 inches. I will be shooing mostly suppressed & mostly subsonic. I will however shoot some supersonic, where I will want maximum energy/velocity. I will shoot...
