Best website for good rimfire ammo

GoodShootingInc.com when they have what you want - high-demand stuff sells out fast. Graf's, Champion's Choice. Killough for Eley. The big names like Midway, Brownell's, etc. are priced on the high end, again when they have what you're looking for. I've bought rimfire from Natchez when I found...

    Weirdness with Lot-Tested Center-X

I'm well aware of the rimfire lottery... there has been "a lot of lots" of other ammo down the tubes (Vudoo, Rim-X) besides the Center-X. As well as my C-X lot shoots, there have been the random rounds that drop a few tenths low at extended ranges (>150 yards). I'm still finding it hard to...

    Weirdness with Lot-Tested Center-X

Summary: Had my 1st-gen Vudoo tested at Lapua's AZ test center early 2020. Bought 2 cases Center-X. I'm down to three (3) bricks of it. Over thousands of rounds, this ammo has averaged ~1080fps with an SD ~7-9, depending on temperature. Accuracy is a consistent 1.0 - 1.1 MOA @100, with plenty...

Own rare CZ 453 but want something else

CZ 457 unless you have a LOT more budget - then it's Vudoo or Rim-X. Ruger "Precision" and Savage are steps down from what you already have.

So over the Contrived and Repetitive Nature of Stages today

That's the way I was with skeet... except I had been doing it over 40 years (NSSA competition less than half that). After the debacle of my last match - culminating in a twice-repeated "jam" on the last stage caused by leaving the 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 chamber flag in (no points match so they let me...

Getting started in rimfire PRS - What rife?

I'll say this right up front: this long post is about SHOTGUNS - but its tie to the thread is the service that goes with top-tier firearms. My Kolar serial is 002xx. My understanding is the initial "in the wild" production run started at 00200 or -01. I had a business trip to Dallas and met...

Getting started in rimfire PRS - What rife?

While a good CZ-457 may well be as accurate as a Vudoo or Rim-X, it will never feel like a Vudoo or Rim-X in its operation no matter how much it's dressed up. I ran 100s with my Beretta 687EELL back in the day; it did fine... but it didn't feel like the Kolar that replaced it. Nor did Beretta...

did i made an error while mounting this scope?

Let it go, dude. You asked a question, got a unanimous answer, one guy pokes an appearance comment into the thread, and you swallowed the hook. The fucking gap doesn't matter. Nobody is going to get close enough to see a gap anyway. Don't feed the trolls. And please don't buy a chronograph or...

    Strelok Pro

Imazing v2.18.. is NOT working for me with iPhone 12 Pro/IOS 17.7. Details: Dowloaded/installed Imazing per post #101. Note that current version is v3.x. The version in #101 was v2.x. I was able to follow the video's steps until the 8:37 mark. At that point, the video shows right-clicking the...

did i made an error while mounting this scope?

Yes. If it was me, I'd leave it alone and go shoot. If you can't leave it alone (aka OCD) - as Rob said, you can fiddle with the rings one at a time, or you can do the witness mark thing and just start again. Or do something in between. Or leave it alone and go shoot. The gaps are fine.

did i made an error while mounting this scope?

Now that the scope is correctly mounted, another suggestion is to put witness marks on scope and one ring so, when you inevitably have to remove the scope, putting it back is vastly easier.

    CZ 455 stock/chassis suggestions

I was thinking "glass bed," not "pillar bed." If your 455 is destined to be a distance-carried hunting rifle - a purpose for which the 455 seems ideal - it seems to me the weight of an aluminum chassis is a detriment as well as the cost. Glass bedding could give you better stock rigidity...

    CZ 455 stock/chassis suggestions

I had a 455 in an MDT LSS-22 chassis with a Magpul PRS buttstock attached. It functioned fine. other than bolt pulling out if I put the wrong Yo-Dave shim/spring set in the trigger and made the pull too light. With the 457 being such a huge improvement over the 455, I'd have a hard time spending...

Getting started in rimfire PRS - What rife?

I was also a long-time NSSA skeet competitor who was bitten by the rifle bug almost eight years ago. I started off in competition with a pair of Tikka centerfire rifles and a CZ-455 .22. Don't bother with a CZ or similar .22, if you have the budget. Go with Vudoo or Rim-X. Trust me. If you have...

    Match barrel . . . Really?

Dude, you just stepped in shit up to your crotch. Frank is one of the most trusted, respected, all-around helpful contributors to this site. As @oldrifleman said, top-shelf vendors/builders are happy and willing to describe component sources. "Proprietary" my ancient hemorrhoidal ass. Bottom...

    Match barrel . . . Really?

I haven't seen a 457 yet that doesn't shoot well - assuming it's fed decent ammo. Having a box of rounds say "Match" on it means absolutely nothing. Most of the high-end .22 brands/labels actually don't use the word "match" - and my remaining stock of RWS R100 actually uses the word "Matchless"...

    Match barrel . . . Really?

OP, most of the probable causes of your accuracy issues have been covered here: Low-end ammo fired in a fast-twist barrel mounted in a never-recognized-for-rimfire-accuracy AR platform. Any one of these bullet points has a high probability of causing poor accuracy, but stacking them together...

So over the Contrived and Repetitive Nature of Stages today

Mid-'90s. Old Hickory Gun Club, near Rocky Mount NC. Mid-sized shoot is full. July. HOT. An up&coming lady shooter, in her mid- to late teens, appeared on Field 2 in short shorts and a bikini top. This is old south Bible belt; some people were highly offended but all the bib-overalls crowd...

So over the Contrived and Repetitive Nature of Stages today

As an observer of and participant in the shooting sports for over half a century, here are a few of my takeaways. TLDR: No discipline will be attractive to all shooters. Don't like PRS / NRL / whatever? Don't shoot it, quit bitching about it, and leave those who do like it alone. If, like...

    Gear choices/next purchases

I think it's important to understand - and accept - that you'll want to acquire more "stuff" just because you want to. Of course, the rationale of "it will make me shoot better" is the standard justification... but the reality is we wanna try new toys. Fine, get new toys, try them, sell them...
