Gunsmithing Caked carbon on muzzle brake.

How often are you guys cleaning out your brakes? Are there some designs that foul faster? I have almost 1k rounds on a JP brake that isn't showing much in the way of fouling. Are there powders that foul heavier?

    Brake Install, Bad Work. Pics.

Can't blame you on that one brother. Judging by the work I'd go 3-1 odds he does more harm than good trying to fix the original shoddy workmanship.

Rifle Scopes Optics for 1,000 yd shooting

No more than 20-25x magnification is necessary. Something like a 3-15x is really plenty and probably more appropriate if you shoot on the move. I have buddies that shoot past 800 on fixed 10x glass.

How many people charge it seat it and SHOOT it!!

Loosening your standards when reloading is what makes for mistakes. I treat every round as though my life counts on it. It might. As far as chasing the perfect round, isn't that all the fun? Finding a sweet load that outshoots all your buddies and calling them all losers is heaven to me.

    Looking at a barrel upgrade

Just like everyone else said, you've got to start loading for your rifle. Factory is like a factory rifle, good place to start but needs upgrades. If you do rebarrel, check out Benchmark. Benchmark Barrels - Home Expect to pay $300-$400 for a barrel + install labor from your local smith...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Thin Carry Pistol

Another vote for the XDs in 9mm. They're a little too new to tout the reliability but if the 45 is an indicator it should be a great pistol. Why no safety? You don't have to engage it.

    Brake Install, Bad Work. Pics.

That contour going from the brake to the barrel is pretty pronounced. I understand not wanting to remove more barrel material but it might make more sense. Local guys usually want to do right by their customers. I imagine if you showed him the flaws that you didn't notice until in the...

    Maggie’s Why did the Operator...

Because his NCStar scope was too blurry to see the other side

    I think I found it

Have you tried leaving them way long and chambering to see at what length the shoulder contacts the lands? My favored load seats at 2.925 but I can't get them to clear the feed ramp when mag fed. Luckily my rifle has been very tolerant of jump. In any case it looks like you've got some good...

Suppressors Suppress a pellet rifle ?

I think he's talking about air rifles, not spring rifles. I've heard air rifles shot that were every bit as loud as a centerfire. Suppressing air rifles is nothing new, which is why i'm a little confused as to the conjecture in this thread.

New Tripod Adapter: Digiscoping and Bi Optic Mounting

That's what I'm wondering. Looks like it cost as much as the glass sitting on it.

    Remington 700 build: I don't know what I'm doing.

If you want to add a DBM to that stock you'll need to inlet for the 1 piece trigger guard/magwell assembly

    Weighing cases

I'm pretty new to the finer points of loading for precision shooting. Would weight differences indicate thicker/thinner case walls resulting in volume/pressure differences?

    AICS 10 rd .308 Magazine

The 10rd mags all fit loosely. The bottom metal has more to do with fitment than the mag.

    I think I found it

What's your COAL? I run 44gr Varget pushing 175 VLD's out of a 20" 5R get just shy of 2600fps. My COAL is 2.850 and 0 pressure signs even on the 4th or 5th loading on Federal match brass. Thinking about working up to a SMK load with ladder test from 43.8-45gr Varget. Shouldn't be...

    Gunsmithing Bench vice

I just use the old craftsman that came bolted to the work bench when I bought my house. Keep some 2x6's and a scroll saw on hand and you can make custom vise blocks for just about anything. Sorry this doesn't directly answer your question about purpose built gun vises, but IMO they are...
