Issues with Lee bullet seating die...?

Having an odd issue with my Lee bullet seating die. I'm loading some 140 RDF's for a Tikka CTR 24" 6.5CM that has a long throat I think (2.986" COAL to be on the lands, yeah yeah I know I should do CBTO but this works fine if you do it right). I'm loading them 0.030" off the lands, so 2.955"...

    When do you anneal?

If you're doing a salt pot anneal, you may want to let the liquid into the inner regions for faster local heating of the neck/shoulder

Keep Rem 700 in .308 or buy a Tikka T3x in 6.5 Creedmoor?

Well, I'm going to biased towards the 6.5CM; I just switched from a T3 lite in 308 to a CTR 24" in 6.5CM for exactly the reasons you proposed. If you want the rifle to double as a family member's target rifle, then I'm sure the 6.5 is going to be better. My complaint with using my Omega on the...

OCW double check for 6.5CM (RL16)

Edit: Posting this because it's been difficult to find manufacturer published data for RL-16 in 6.5CM and wanted to check. Hi all, just wanted to double check on my OCW plan. I'll edit and post results once I've got em. Items: Lapua small primer brass RL-16 (got an 8# jug!) CCI 450's 140gr...

Keep Rem 700 in .308 or buy a Tikka T3x in 6.5 Creedmoor?

Just my thoughts, but I'd sell the MDT chassis, keep the 700 as strictly a hunting rifle, and just shoot more with your DTA. Especially if you've got a good 178 ELD-X load that's accurate and 308 components.

That's really encouraging to see the PVAprefit working so well; come time to rebarrel I think I know what I'll be going for.

Caliber selection based on barrel longevity?

From what I've read, the 6.5/.260's are a great balance point of barrel life, recoil and reloading cost. I'll consider it an accomplishment when I burn out the barrel on my new 6.5CM Tikka and get a PVA drop in. The 6's don't do the wind as well AFAIK. If you want to step into the big bores...

Same dimensions and rifle for mine in the blued. (Okay, .783" is what I measured :D )

    Suppressor vs Brake

As lunchbox said, my omega (w/ the "suppressor brake") doesn't offer as much recoil reduction as just the QD brake I have under it, but the difference in how pleasant it is to shoot is worth it to me. Increased POI shift from heat on thinner barrels may be motivation to not use a brake though.

338 Lapua: The Worst Choice for a Precision Rifle

Are we this childish...? I mean, this is me asking this after all.

Best Mass Produced Long Range Rifle Under $1000?

If it's the range I'm thinking it is, you'll probably see me there with my 24" CTR in 6.5CM. Whittaker guns had/has it for $820. Not sure when I'll be going next. Unless you're limited by weight for lugging around in the mountains, the CTR version of the T3x may tickle your pickle a bit better.

Neat. Got my 6.5CM 24" CTR in and was able to modify a Pmag I had laying around to fit the stock DBM (took some off the front, rear tab, and feed lips of the mag). Really like this rifle in pretty much every way. If it groups well and the grip is close & vertical enough, I probably won't think...

Just picked up my first Savage in 338 lapua

I got the 112 Mag Target (single shot bolt action). I had an issue with excessive headspace and the chamber is a bit short, but I think I've got it fixed now. Hoping to get some load development going next outing.

    Caliber selection

consider bolt face diameter (more so than action length) for tikkas as you won't be swapping that out for less than $400, if you're looking at eventually rebarreling.

    Is it Rust? Salts? What?

oxidized copper deposits from the vaporized copper that flies out the barrel with the bullet. You see it a lot in suppressors as well. The white stuff is dried out cleaners though; make sure you wipe that crap out of your barrel/crown though as it'll cause the corrosion you're seeing.

Thanks, I thought so as well but figured I'd ask anyway. I'll just *ahem* shoot for half-MOA and see if I can do that to start with. Well, I'm starting to see some discussion online about needing to bed it for larger calibers; specifically 338LM. Either way, I'm won't be messing with it for a...

Has anyone done anything with regards to the recoil lug? Weld it on, bed it, or otherwise? I'm not sure if there'd be any benefit to changing anything and perhaps I should just leave well enough alone.

Question for yall with 24" CTR's...do you think that the barrel thickess is optimal? Do you expect/experience much heat effects? Much POI shift from putting a suppressor on the end of it? I'm looking to pick one up.
