Gunsmithing Show us some of your shop pics!

Re: Show us some of your shop pics! I've used both (piston & wedge) holders. The wedges are better suited for hogging but are more expensive. The piston type is adequate for any type of gunsmithing you're likely to encounter. For the difference in price you could lay in a lot more holders...

Gunsmithing what lathe to start with

Re: what lathe to start with "Having said that, I think any machining is the operator, its in the set up and measuring." That is 100% right on. I've seen shoddy work off top notch machinery by mediocre "operators", and top notch work off "mediocre" machinery by skilled journeymen.

Gunsmithing AICS recoil lug slot; why can't I go deeper?

Re: AICS recoil lug slot; why can't I go deeper? The old axiom of "modifying the least expensive part" has always made sense to me. I'd hazard a guess that the recoil lug would more'n likely fit that criteria.

Gunsmithing Changing 308 barrel to shoot 7.5x55?

Re: Changing 308 barrel to shoot 7.5x55? You can open the neck of a .284 win with a 30 cal mandrel and you'll have a 7.5x55 with a rebated rim that will run quite well in a standard bolt face. I've done this to two of my 700's, and have won matches with both.
