Hang Fires - Sellier and Bellot LRM

The mentioned brand of primers caused hang fires with 72.5 gr of Norma 217 in a 300 WM.

    My 300 WM loads

Just got back from the range with the 300WM, 208 Amax, and Norma 217. 72.5 gr with federal brass and 215 GM primer showed 3004 fps from a 29 inch barrel.

October 2014 Las Vegas Precision Rifle Match

80 rounds is a lot of 300 for sure. Luckily its real heavy with a pretty good muzzle brake. I brought it to the June match but only completed ½ the match because of a stuck extractor. Sadly, I put a 260 together but the dang Sightron scope took a dive last week (turret screw).

October 2014 Las Vegas Precision Rifle Match

I'll be there. I am grateful for you guys putting this on. The scope on my 260 is broken at the moment, so I will have to bring the 300 WM out.

New shooter, looking for first rifle

For 750-1200, a 260 Rem will do but 1200 is really the practical limit IMO. For 2000, a 300 win mag or 7mm mag might be the minimum for practicality sake. As you noted, a 338 Lapua makes 2000 no problem. Surgeon, GAP, and several custom makers will set you up nicely, in any caliber. Having...

300 win mag and norma 217 anyone?

N-217 seems to be slightly sensitive. Recently, from 75 degrees to 107 degrees it needed .7 of a grain less to compensate for temp. If H1000 or retumbo are not available then 217 is the next best option.

Rifle Scopes nightforce - worth the extra money vs others?

Currently, I have a Vortex, NSX, and a Sightron SIII mounted. The NSX has the finest reticle but not the clearest glass but is by far the most durable. The Sightron has the best glass but the worst reticle, very thick. The Vortex has a good reticle, decent glass and is more durable than the...

    338 Lapua Weigh In

20.5 lbs with a scope and empty mag. The barrel is a 32 inch cylinder contour.

300 win mag and norma 217 anyone?

Norma 217 and RL 25 are nearly identical powders. I worked up a retumbo/208 amax and velocity went way up in a 29 inch Kreiger. Recoil also went way up but accuracy was the same at around .3 MOA.

300 win mag and norma 217 anyone?

80 grains seems like a lot. I settled on 72.5 showing around 2900 fps with the 208 amax.

The importance of a family running password.

He forgot his key. And he was not roaming the streets rather, just arrived home from California with my parents. I may or may not have done the right thing; all I knew is that there was an unexpected person on my back porch. The assumption that I was anywhere near firing is a huge leap. It...

The importance of a family running password.

Exactly. There was an unidentified person outside of my back door. Why would I have expected my son to be there when he has a key (that he forgot), and why would he not just call me, or ring the doorbell? The password immediately diffused the situation. I didn't even have to decide anything...

The importance of a family running password.

Isn't a running password used as an identification tool? To fire without PID is just silly, but it does happen. Now, in the dark, noise at night, without corrective lenses the password becomes paramount to safety. We were taught that forgetting the password could be lethal on the drop zone...

    Experienced rifleman please chime in....

Maybe the loose chambers of WWII would allow the mag to press up on the bolt and as a result, somehow effect how the bullet sits in the chamber. This is of course, assuming WWII chambers were loose enough to be affected like this.

The importance of a family running password.

Tonight, around 10 pm my son jumped the back gate and was attempting to enter through the back dog door. I was washing dishes and saw someone in black clothing in a crouching posture just outside my back door. I drew my handgun and pointed it at the door and yelled "stop, stop, stop." He...

    Experienced rifleman please chime in....

Hmm. Seeing that the bullet comes from the chamber, I'd have to say no. The magazine may be less steady and offer more of a shift in point of aim resulting in a wondering point of impact but to change you zero, that seems unlikely. Maybe there is something I am missing and if so, I hope...

6.5 creedmoor loads for JP rifles 22'' barrel

That is pretty neat. Surprising for a lower end, nearly stock gun. It is a DPMS LR-260. The only mods are an adjustable gas block and an SR Gold trigger. To be honest, the .380 was only a 3 shot group but that is all I needed to determine the correct load. Others were right at 1 inch in...

    Scope mounting tolerances

As far as the .260 Remington will shoot. The matches I attend are maxed at 1200, and that is rare. Mostly, 780 and below. There is more than enough land in Clark County, NV to test the limits of the .260. Hell, they used to set off nukes right down the road. In a way, we are blessed to have...

6.5 creedmoor loads for JP rifles 22'' barrel

Just got back from load development with the 142 SMK and H4831sc. 46 gr showed .380 at 100. 2784 was the average velocity, ES 9, SD 4. I think my chrono is half junk so those numbers may be a little tight, or even way off.

6.5 creedmoor loads for JP rifles 22'' barrel

I plan on being there. Today, 45.5gr of H4831sc was my most accurate with the 140 SMK. The best it would do is right at .910 inch. Tomorrow I am headed to Nellis to work up the 142 SMK. The more I read, the better the 123's look. According to Applied Ballistics, the 123 gets to 1000 with 20...
