Cold steel has alot of Chinese shit, some decent stuff also just like many other makers. Just remember if it's something you value enough to trust your life to then pay attention to the steel. Friends don't let friends use vg10. That said the falknivens reallyaren't bad choices and top quality blades. Becker bk9/junglas and an izula or eskabar or esee 3 combo is covering bases Folder is worthless unless your cutting boxes or opening letters... Hatchet is about as worthless.- Sutherlandsd

224 Valkyrie, it's cheap to reload or cheap to buy at Walmart. Ballistics closer to what I actually shoot and as a bonus I can actually use it to compete with or can let a friend or one of the kids use.- Sutherlandsd

The kabar is an excellent fighting knife so is the Applegate neither one is a Bushcraft type knife. Op needs to evaluate needs, if he wants a knife to fight his way back home then the kabar is a stellar choice. The coating on any of the 1095 blades such as the ESEE or Becker Knives can be removed in about 10 minutes with a towel and some paint stripper. Not too sidetrack... The answer to the op is to find what feels comfortable in your price range and use it, get comfortable with it so when you need it you can use it effectively. I have several bark river knives, a Canadian special that has skinned pretty much a zoo full of animals has been beat on batoned on dug holes cut everything imaginable and still pretty much looks good enough to hang on a wall. Esee great choice but the 4 is the sweet spot not the three. If your gonna wear it on your hip then the three can be debated. Four is much more usable. Look also at the tops Bob or the bark river bravo- Sutherlandsd

I've had the head space vary on pretty much all of my Bighorn barrels some will close with resistance on a no-go some not at all. As stated above though I reload so does it really matter?- Sutherlandsd
