Hunting & Fishing Alaska Bear Hunt Gone Bad

Re: Alaska Bear Hunt Gone Bad LX: When I read that article this morning I thought about adding the facing opposite direction on a snowmobile start for your towed bear course.

Hunting & Fishing Judge for Bear

Re: Judge for Bear Greg: I feel blessed every day knowing we have been able to actually do our dream. Been forced into some bear things but really not as experienced as the bear guides and people like X's instructor who bet there ass regularly. They are the ones to listen to. I really like...

Hunting & Fishing Judge for Bear

Re: Judge for Bear Gregg: Here is a small brownie that took the first four from a a 454 Causall center mass in the chest and never blinked and you can plainly see where the 5th went that stopped him. This bear was >6ft in length and about that distance when finally stopped. I was right...

Hunting & Fishing Judge for Bear

Re: Judge for Bear LX: One thing I didn't mention is that I went from the bolts to the semi because in the scenario's you practice at 15 yards the bolt gun is a one shot deal unless the growler is slowed for some reason. May be people that can do more shots with a bolt but not me. Anything...

Hunting & Fishing Judge for Bear

Re: Judge for Bear LX: I'll certainly bow to that experience. I would like to see the particulars of the slug penetration on any size brown bear. The 375 like rifle cartridges are well proven in Alaska but the drawbacks of a rifle in very close quarters is being able to put it on target...

    First Plane of the Season

Re: First Plane of the Season Little early for the growlers. Have seen only two so far. Usually they beachcomb on both coasts before coming inland for the salmon runs. Just ordered more electric fence.

    First Plane of the Season

Re: First Plane of the Season YK: We get a good combination of about 8 months of almost no one and 4 months of visitors. PH: According to my C map I'm been living several hundred yards out in the Lagoon. I've been down here since 85 and even then the all the charts were crap. Saw the...

Hunting & Fishing Judge for Bear

Re: Judge for Bear I've been asked what I carry and the answer is not much. When I first moved out here I never went anywhere including the outhouse packing but have become lazy over the years. When they get thick in the front yard I keep the the 375 or the 50 Beowulf handy. Bear spray is...

    First Plane of the Season

Re: First Plane of the Season YK: Our breakup varies every year We were running ice for about 10 days. We get the same limbo periods in the fall and spring where we can't travel or get a plane in. These were the first humans we've seen since some villagers visited us in January.

    First Plane of the Season

First plane of the season brought in the crew to set up a sonar counter for outbound salmon smolt today. Not that big a deal but it did contain the first people we've seen in quite awhile.

Re: High MPG beater the new status symbol. Show your's +1 on the Honda's. I can usually stay in the 30mpg bracket assuming I don't get caught in the rush hour stop and go stuff.

    Mounted in Alaska

Re: Mounted in Alaska SDW: Great idea but why not a pregnent teen age daughter you can add for a 1/4 million donation paired with Charlie Sheen as a Wasilla Hockey Player turned Playgirl model. Paris Hilton might be a stretch in the "Gash".

    Mounted in Alaska

When I saw this on the TV listing last night my first thought was why do they have Arctic Porn on the History channel? When I watched it I couldn't believe they made a series on Knights Taxidermy in Los Anchorage. Couldn't believe it was the Russel I knew as they were discussing two week turn...

Hunting & Fishing Boiling A Skull........

Re: Boiling A Skull........ TW: For the skulls I processed I brought it to a very light boil untill the teeth were just about ready to fall out. A couple times I even had to super glue them in. I've found less risk just bleaching them in the sun.
