Rifle Scopes Can you leave a rifle scope in a hot car?

It is hard to believe that the scopes can't take the heat of a car. My gun out in the sun is so hot to the touch, it burns my face when looking through the scope. I am sure they figure that the scope laying out in the sun is going to get really hot. Also, it would be more of a known issue if...

Rifle Scopes Can you leave a rifle scope in a hot car?

I'm confused here, so will the nitrogen inside my scope push out passed the seals? If it does what will happen? I own a vortex viper scope so I assume I can get it warrantied if this happens. But will I notice something is wrong with the scope or will my accuracy or clarity just get worse?

Rifle Scopes Can you leave a rifle scope in a hot car?

I am sometimes forced to leave a rifle scope in a hot car. It gets pretty hot inside the car especially on 85+ degree days. My searches came up with nothing so I am wondering if it is a bad idea to leave a rifle scope in a hot car.

Rifle Scopes confused about right and up on turret.

Interesting and thanks for the replies. I wonder whoever decided or invented this way of thinking. To me it just made more sense to think of the scope turning, and not the point of impact.

Rifle Scopes confused about right and up on turret.

On my scope it has an arrow pointing up and that is counter clockwise for the elevation adjustment. for the windage there is an arrow that is pointing and says right. What I am confused is when I turn the turret in that direction it goes opposite where I expect it will. I figure if I turn...

cleaning rifle without bore guide? How much damage did I do?

Thanks for the responses. Quick question, I ran a few patches of clp down the barrel, and then a dry patch as the last patch. Is this enough to have the barrel clean and ready to shoot from a factory new gun?

cleaning rifle without bore guide? How much damage did I do?

I keep reading where everyone recommends a bore guide or their barrel will suffer. I did order a bore guide for my Remington 700 5r, however it was defective and I could not use it. I had planned to go shoot this new gun today and had my day planned out and then the bore guide was useless...

cleaning receiver and screw holes before mounting base question?

In my instructions to mount the base it says to clean the screw holes and screws with alcohol and or a degreaser. Why is this exactly? Should you not leave any oil to protect from rust? In another instructions it says just to clean the receiver and base thoroughly. Is it OK to leave a...

    Newbie mounting scope questions

Hello, I am mounting my first scope and have a few questions. First I wanted to say that I have researched how to do this to death, but still have some questions. My rifle is a 700 5r 308. I bought a weaver 20 MOA picatinny rail and a vortex viper pst 6x24-50 scope, which I have here...

Can a 308 rifle shoot any grain bullet without damaging to the barrel or gun?

I am just learning how to shoot with my first scope. I bought a Remington 700 5r 308 that has a 1.11.5 twist rate. Will I be OK shooting this PPU 145 grain ball ammo I have in the Remington? I figure I will be doing close 100-200 yards and just trying to hit a target, not trying to shoot holes...

Can a 308 rifle shoot any grain bullet without damaging to the barrel or gun?

Basically can any barrel shoot any grain bullet without doing damage to the barrel? I see there are grain ranges for each twist. But what if you try and shoot a 145 grain out of a 1:10 twist barrel? Thanks. I tried to search for this on Google without finding anything specific.
