    260 Build is finished

Brooooo good to see you're on the hide! It's Luis. The gun's looking solid man. When we get back up to Lejeune I'm gonna have to take a trip up so we can shoot. Hopefully I'll have my new barrel by then so I can keep up with your laser beam.

    Remington 700 SPS tactical upgrades

Euro optic has good deals on vortex scopes and SWFA 10x is a good choice also. Don't shoot crappy ammo, the gold medal match is great factory rounds I'd go with that.

Gunsmithing Which torque screwdriver to get

Yup, I have a fat wrench also and it's great for what I need it for. Comes with a decent case and is reasonably priced.

Shoot with just pillars installed or get the rifle bedded too???

There's a bunch of threads on this and mcmillan jumped in and gave their view on it. Read that, it's a good toilet thinker. But you don't have to bed it. If you're handy and meticulous you can bed it yourself with no problems. But if you're getting sub moa already then it's up to you. I did it...

    Gunsmithing Jewell Trigger Spring

They're supposed to come with the other two springs in an envelope. I'd imagine if the trigger didn't come with them you could just call Jewell and they'll send you the springs.

    Gunsmithing Bedding Compound

There is differences... http://www.devcon.com/UserFiles/File/DevPermCAT_Edition9_LR.pdf I did a lot of research on bedding compound before I bedded my rifle. I ended up going with the 10110 steel putty. It was locally available and a lot of people have used it in bedding jobs. It came out great.

    Rem.700 ACC-SD 308

looks good! Seems like you might need a cheek rest to bring your eye up in line with the scope. I got a stock pack for my old stock off of ebay for like $17 but I believe there are some better ones out there.

    My first long range rig!

Oh and the scenars are awesome bullets but as you've said they're pricey and I like to shoot a lot so I stick with 175SMKs off of midway sometimes you can get pretty good deals.

    My first long range rig!

Very nice, you seem like you know what you're doing then and have a great start. I don't think the shorter barrel will be too much of a limit for right now. Can you benefit from a longer barrel? Absolutely and later on you'll want to rebarrel maybe with a bartlein, shilen, etc. But can you hit...

    My first long range rig!

nice rig man! I know someone else already hit on it but yeah 168's won't do you too well once they go transonic. If you can't find Fed GMM's then maybe consider reloading. If you're getting pretty serious into the long range game, it's a good investment and I love the idea of shooting bullets...

Stainless steel tumbling - still dirty primer pockets

I use an ultrasonic cleaner and that usually gets everything super clean including the inside of the case which is the most important. Sometimes I get a few dirty primer pockets so I just go to my Lyman hand prep tools and clean them out.

    Gunsmithing AR 15 gas block

What kyle said^ soak the pins in some pb blaster or something and make sure you tap the pins out the right way! Don't be afraid to hit them hard, they're in there tight

Thanks, it's the SPS tactical's stock 20" barrel. I'm waiting to get a little more life out of it before I order a bartlein.

What brass usually has the smallest amount of weight different between cases?

Lapua for sure. My largest difference after prep was only 1.3gr and it was only a few. The majority of it was +\- .2

    Load Development Reassurance

I'd roll with 44.1. I've spent a lot of time and money trying to find a "perfect" load and I think many other people would agree. You can load them in .1 increments for self reassurance and see what runs best so you don't have to ask yourself the "what if" but I think those numbers look good...

    Rem.700 ACC-SD 308

I have the sps tactical 1:12 bedded in a mcmillan with a vortex 6-24 and timney trigger. Shooting 175gr SMKs in Lapua brass over 43.2gr IMR4064 and fed210m primers at 2600fps The gun shoots very well. I just shot at K&M this weekend and took it out to 940 with no problems. It's a good rifle to...

    Gunsmithing skim bedding?

Coat the screws in release agent pretty good and they'll screw right out. I use a q tip to get release agent inside the pillar holes. Whatever bedding that gets in there should push out and if not you could always drill the holes out. OR use long screws with no head and screw them into your...

    Grain weight accuracy

I just bought an RCBS chargemaster because my lee balance beam would stick, giving inaccurate results, and my hornady gs1500 wondered all over the place. If it works for you then that's great, but if you start to see a low charge come up and you haven't changed anything in your pouring, you know...

New shooter, looking for first rifle

There's a lot of good replies here. Me personally, I'm happy I started with a stock sps tactical in .308 and worked my way up. I've learned a lot about the gun and have done everything myself. I'm still learning every day. Sure I probably could have saved some money buying everything at first...

Here's my R700 bedded in a Mcmillan and duracoated in FDE with a Vortex 6-24 on top. It's come a little ways since I bought the stock SPS tactical a year or so ago.
