    155 or 185 for 308 to 1k

Make sure you crono your ammo before you settle on a load. You need to be supersonic at 1000. the 185's will buch the wind better. At the end of the day a 19" barrel is not the best thing for 1000 shooting due to the loss of velocity.

    Making a 10mm out of a 40 S&W

I'm no hog hunting expert; .40 is a 10mm bullet so legally I think your OK. I think that bullet choice is going to be more of an issue then an extra 100 or so FPS. You are using an aftermarket barrel so that's a good thing. Provided your keen on pushing .40 to the edge, which I don't advise...

How long will reloads last in storage?

I, and many others are still shooting WWII ammo and its still good to go. I did attempt to shoot some old 8mm ammo we found in AFG and you could pull the bullets out of the case and the necks were brittle. With some of the old mil match ammo, guys used to seat the bullet in the case another...

Can I get match grade MOA's reloading mil-spec brass?

WES, I see that you are shooting an AR-10 series rifle; I think its a DMPS factory gun. Be realistic and you will not be disappointed; You should expect to get 1.5 MOA or so with that rifle. The most important factor to consider is what bullets will work best; I would try several weights...

FL vs Neck Sizing...Truth or Myths?

Provided you shot the brass in that AR based rifle you can safely neck size ammo in an AR type rifle. The right might not function as it should, but in most cases its just fine. You have lots on inertia behind the bolt to lock the rifle up. While I have not NSed ammo for my AR service rifle I...

FL vs Neck Sizing...Truth or Myths?

Deadshot2, I have not tried the Foster Neck/ shoulder dies. The advantage I see is that with a body formed to the chamber the ctg should be a little better centered. All I used in my 6.5x.284 is a standard redding FL die and a foster BR seating die. I have begun to experiment with FL...

    Sleuthing IMI 5.56 77gr OTM LR Mod 1 ??

Reference the comment about Berger 77's; they are not VLD bullets and are designed to be loaded to magazine length.

    20 shot load test

Remember that you need to test accuracy and chronograph results. On many a given load you will have 25-50 FPS ES over a 10 shot string and still have single digit SD. One shot at each powder charge provides some indication but there is too much ES/ SD to use velocity as the only standard. You...

    .308 reloads

The majority of factory rifles have long throats. Its a matter of pressure and liability among other things. 175 and 168 BTHPs don't mind the jump as much as VLD type of bullets do. As far as accuracy goes I would expect 1.5 MOA for a 10 shot group at 100 yds and be happy with under 1 MOA...

    Bumping shoulders too far back?

Glad to help. You can also use a paperclip to see if your cases are close to separation. In reality I have not seen it in a bolt gun unless you have mixed range pick up brass in with new stuff. Its quite hard to overwork brass that much in a bolt gun but it can be done. If you were shooting...

FL vs Neck Sizing...Truth or Myths?

For what its worth I don't neck size anything. I have tried NS in several .308 and .223 bolt guns. I find that in highpower and factory chambers I get inconsistent bolt close when I neck size which indicates that that the cases are not all the same dimensions. You need consistent sized cases...

    Multiple rifles in one caliber

The best option would be to have a die and brass for each rifle. At a minimum you can adjust the die for the tightest chamber and set the FL die for that. You need to keep the brass separate. You will find that custom barrel rifles will be on the tight side and factory guns will be on the...

    Bumping shoulders too far back?

I suspect that the shoulder dimensions of your chamber don't quite match that of your sizing die. Remember that you are measuring a .006 reduction to get the bolt to close off an arbitrary point in the "center of the shoulder" in actuality, you might be bumping the center of the shoulder where...

    308 win lapua palma brass

This brass needs no special reloading practices. I believe it has a standard flash hole and not a "small one" I have been tracking threads on this brass for a little while. I intend to buy and compare it to the standard LR brass in the future when I get home. There is some speculation that...

7.62 mil-spec vs. 308 Win for reloading match. Accuracy difference?

Years ago when we all shot M1A/ M14 for high-power the use of MIL cases was more of the norm. M14's are quite hard on brass and the thicker webs helped to get a few reloads out of it. The ejection cycle on an M14 is violent as there is still lots of peak pressure and the brass will stretch...

When to use an expander mandrel; is it even necessary?

As already stated you can use the mandrel prior to neck turning. You can also use it to iron out necks on new brass. Alternatively, you can use the mandrel to uniformly expand and uniform the necks after you use a bushing die with the expander ball removed. The effect is that you are pushing...

    Crimping issue

You have to size the case before you crimp it. If you are sizing (FL or NS) and can push the bullet or move it, you need more neck tension.

    reload order

for 300 blackout, on your first loading you have to trim the brass if you have made it from .223 brass. If its starting as 300BO brass you trim after you size the brass. for .308 you size then trim if you need to or want to after you size the brass. Most of the time in a bolt gun the brass...

    XM118LR questions

    a) Has anyone experienced high pressure signs with repeated reloading's? - If anything on your second loading you will have a little more internal capacity even with FL dies as the factory sizing is usually smaller then you can get things back to with a FL die. - You will likely have loose...
