Tech??? How far to back down off max load?

Once you guys start finding signs of overpressure, how far do you back down. Here's the scenario. I'm reloading for my 6.5-284 and my most accurate load is 47.3 grains of H4350, but my bolt starts getting sticky at 47.6 grains. From what I can gather an increase in chamber pressure relative to...

    Tankers leaving Knox for Benning!

Re: Tankers leaving Knox for Benning! Agony and Misery. Man that brought back some memories. Hadn't heard that term in 20 years. I was one of those Marine Corps Tankers that went through there for basic tank school and then back again for tank commander school. What I remember is pretty...

Maggie’s Most Ridiculous Accuracy Claim You have Seen

Re: Most Ridiculous Accuracy Claim You have Seen Heard this from my uncle last week. Says he pulled up to his friends house, and there was a big commotion going on. Seems several guys were trying to catch a chicken that was loose in the yard. He said he pulled his .25 cal pistol out of his...

2 Quick 6.5/284 Questions from a Novice Reloader.

Re: 2 Quick 6.5/284 Questions from a Novice Reloader. Well scratch question #2. Was working up slowly from 51 grains and at 51.2 I noticed that my bolt seemed slightly harder to disengage, but it was soooo minimal I wondered if it was just my imagination. When I stepped up to 51.4 grains...

    Really Tough Reloading Questions/Follow-up Report

Re: Really Tough Reloading Questions Greg, you were correct. I moved the chrony about 10 ft out from the end of the muzzle and my velocities dropped back to what you would expect from the corresponding amount of powder. Had to be the muzzle blast that was giving the erroneous readings. Thanks.

    Really Tough Reloading Questions/Follow-up Report

Re: Really Tough Reloading Questions That may have been it. My chrony was about 4-5 ft from the muzzle and the muzzle blast visibly shook it with every shot. I'm going back and try it again later this week. Will post an update at that time.

    Really Tough Reloading Questions/Follow-up Report

Re: Really Tough Reloading Questions Should have specified. Cold bore shot has been high with the rifle clean or dirty. It doesn't matter. It's always high. The second one is always a bit lower and by the 3rd or 4 round it's settled back to zero.

    Really Tough Reloading Questions/Follow-up Report

I have a DPMS SASS with an 18 inch barrel and 1 in 10 twist. I have always noted with factory ammo that my first cold bore shot of the day consistently went 2 inches high. Fast forward to today when I took my first batch....EVER of handloads to the range. I started with 42.5 grains of Varget...

    It's not a Giraud but it's a heck of a lot cheaper

Re: It's not a Giraud but it's a heck of a lot cheaper I can change the belt on the press to change the rpms. I went with the slowest rmp which is 620 if I'm not mistaken. Nothing gets hot or even warm... the cutter head, the trimmer bearings, etc.

    It's not a Giraud but it's a heck of a lot cheaper

I hate trimming cases. I wanted to get a Giraud, but didn't want to fork over the money. Yesterday while getting ready to trim some cases I had an epiphany. I built this jig to mount my RCBS case trimmer into my new drill press($67 from Northern Tool this week). Works like a charm. Easy...

Maggie’s Most Ridiculous Accuracy Claim You have Seen

Re: Most Ridiculous Accuracy Claim You have Seen Not a ridiculous accuracy claim, but I had a funny incident at the range a few years back. I sold a neighbor my 300 Weatherby Mag in a Ruger No. 1. It was pretty darn accurate, but I hated sighting it in because it left me with a sore...
