Pistol Reloading Issue I cant figure out

New carry gun? Is its feed ramp steeper than other 9mm pistols you have? See below - I never had any trouble with uncrimped .223 bulk reloads in ARs until my son bought his infernal Tavor. Now I have to crimp anything that may find its way into that one rifle - process described below. -------...

    Need UPS for FX120i

Putting a 100-gram weight on the scale and seeing "100" is not calibrating it. See pages 30-31 of the manual for the external-weight calibration procedure. I'm not saying calibration should/would have any effect on drifting - it probably shouldn't - but to me it's a reasonable step to take.

    Need UPS for FX120i

How about moving the scale to another breaker circuit, or even move it to a friend's house, to see if plugging it into a different outlet makes any difference? Also, have you tried recalibrating it with a known check weight? Someone mentioned the bubble level. I have to level my scale every...

    Barrel selection specifications

A finished 28" straight-contour barrel will weigh right at 9 pounds (table below). If you're young and strong, that well may be fine for you, and fluting would lighten it some. I have a couple of Heavy Varmint contour barrels (~7.5 lb); I'm old & relatively feeble so incoming new barrels are...

    .223 Rifle Build

A few thoughts. My background on the subject: Past owner of a .223 Tikka T3x Varmint upgraded with MDT 20MOA rail, LSS-XL chassis, ARCA rail, Anarchy Outfdoors bolt handle. Currently VERY pleased with Terminus Apollo-based custom .223 with Bartlein 1:7 barrel and TriggerTech Diamond in MDT ACC...

Suppressors SOLVED - New to cans - by far my biggest surprise has been...

So I took the can, an AR, a .223 bolt rifle, a 9mm PCC, and a few flavors of ammo to the range today with specific intent of figuring out what might be causing the ammonia odor. I now believe the smell results from lubricant in the hub's locking collar and front cap threads burning off, as well...

Slugging barrels......Don't F'in do things like this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In 60+ years of shooting shotgun, rifle and handgun and reloading for all of them starting at age 14, I've learned a little. And the more I learn the more I understand how much more there is to know. And one of the things of which I am sure is that Homo sapiens as a species hasn't really...

Suppressors SOLVED - New to cans - by far my biggest surprise has been...

Bore Tech C4. I may use Remington 40x on the first few inches of the barrel, but it gets thoroughly swabbed out with dry patches on a .22 cal jag, followed by ample C4 patches finished by at least two dry patches.

Suppressors SOLVED - New to cans - by far my biggest surprise has been...

I'd bet $ it's ammonia... I remember from some college chemistry thing where ammonia gas was a byproduct. But AR versus bolt gun is a variable easy enough to check - next time I go out, I'll run the bolt rifle first and then [groan, bring on the comments] sniff the can. In any event, I did a...

    6mm BR

A comment re Varget: just NO, I'm not paying over $400 a jug for it plus hazmat and shipping. I just got a jug of N150 for $371 to my door; saved right at $100 over Varget from the same vendor (BCR) and if it does as well in 6BR as N135 has in .223 I'll be a very happy curmudgeon.

Suppressors SOLVED - New to cans - by far my biggest surprise has been...

Ok, keep the comments coming. I'll get to the range in next few days and pay specific attention to whether the ammonia presence is associated with my AR reloads (H335, 55gr ball / 69gr SMK) or one or more of the factory offerings. I'll also put it on my .223 bolt gun and run my current preferred...

    Zero angle question

Late to this party, but let me elaborate on what's been said (which is in essence, "just zero the scope and drive on, it's fine"). All I'm doing is explaining how the rail angle affects your scope's elevation "capability." Your scope will have some amount of elevation range, measured in MOA or...

Suppressors SOLVED - New to cans - by far my biggest surprise has been...

No. Vast majority of shooting so far has been .223/5.56x45 - reloads with H335 but also some Defender Ammunition 77 SMK, 75 Hornady BTHP. Also quite a bit of Federal and American Eagle factory XM193. I want to say that Defender uses TAC or other Hodgdon powders but I'm not certain and at...

Suppressors SOLVED - New to cans - by far my biggest surprise has been...

Interesting. Note that the smell is only apparent if I put the just-fired suppressor near my nose, or, in son's case, if he has his face down near the action of his Tavor and he's shooting. Both cans are Rugged Alaskan 360s, primarily used on two different ARs but also on a Tavor, AK47, PCC...

Suppressors SOLVED - New to cans - by far my biggest surprise has been...

Thanks (??) to @Rob01 and my adult son, I've been led into the world of suppressors. Nothing unexpected until... ... I discovered the SMELL. After the first outing with son's new suppressor and it cooled off, we unscrewed it and put it back in its plastic box. Later, at my house, I took it out...

    Weirdness with Lot-Tested Center-X

No. Bricks were stored right-side-up in original shipping cases in a cabinet in climate-controlled room. So, cartridges sat for 4ish years bullet end down. I'm still running those last few bricks of Center-X in a 100-yard monthly competition, but I've gone to Lapua Long Range for PRS-style...

    Beam Torque Wrench for Scopes?

Wheeler FAT wrench comes with a cert. At least mine did.

    5.56x45 muzzle device questions

One of the design features of the AR platform is the axes of bore/buffer tube/buttstock are aligned and recoil goes straight back into the shoulder. Its predecessor, the M14, was extremely difficult to control in full auto mode because the bore axis was above the "axis" of the stock so the...

Rifle Scopes Razor gen 3 upgrade

I own both (ZCO 527 and gen-3 Razor). The ZCO is marginally better in low light or high mirage situations. It is NOT, in my opinion, $1000+ better. That opinion has been shared by several others who have looked through the scopes side by side in high-mirage situations. Also, Vortex warrants...

    Cataract Surgeon in DFW Area

Yes, definitely shot shotgun with both eyes open... and I think I sometimes shoot rifle with both eyes open too. Honestly, I don't even think about it anymore. I wore contacts until my mid-40s, when I needed bifocals. I was picky too - I was complain that I wasn't seeing well if I coudn;t read...
