    RFI: Atlas BT35-LW17 5-H

Though I have no aspirations to compete, I do very much enjoy my informal range sessions of getting on the ground behind my rifle and shooting for group size without any time constraints. For me, it's all about relaxation! Which leads me to my question: as you can in the photo below, I'm using...

    Precision Rifles.....show em!!

For those using the SWFA 10 X 42 HD scope I thought I'd share this; Along with the Vortex covers, Holland bubble level and zero-stop shim kit, I'm using a Switchview SV172-176 cat tail on the parallax adjustment ring. The ring is very stiff to turn and is difficult to get a grip on. The cat...

Rifle Scopes In need of honest opinions for some old man eyes...

Just for grins and giggles, try adjusting the diopter to see if you can get a sharp reticle with no corrective lenses. If so, you should be able to focus the scope on the target. I have found this works much better for my 64 year old eyes than trying the same while wearing glasses.

Advanced Marksmanship Practical Tactical Practice - Avoiding Group Shots

This! I have always shot groups off the bench for this purpose. My current goal is to build enough competence shooting supported prone to have the same level of confidence in the results as I have had shooting off the bench on bags. I now consider this quite achievable.

Advanced Marksmanship Practical Tactical Practice - Avoiding Group Shots

Inspired by this thread, I decided to give this a try today. I have these NRA 50-foot smallbore targets handy, so I decided to use them. On the target below (100 yards) I used the upper-center target to test my zero out of a clean, cold bore. I fired two rounds and decided to give it one...

Rifle Scopes SWFA 10X42 HD Parallax Cat Tail

I never owned the non-HD version so I can not make any first-hand comparisons. The consensus based on Internet reviews is improved glass, better turret feel, single screw securing the turret knobs and dead-on tracking. It is made in Japan (not sure about the non-HD version). As would I.

Rifle Scopes SWFA 10X42 HD Parallax Cat Tail

The OD of the parallax ring on the HD model measures 1.735" and the MGM Switchview cat tail is advertised to fit from 1.720" to 1.760". You will need to measure the OD on yours with a set of calipers and then see if MGM offers one that will fit it. Their own line of SS scopes have been well...

Rifle Scopes SWFA 10X42 HD Parallax Cat Tail

For the $$ invested, I have been quite pleased with the SWFA 10X42 HD scope with its durable, high quality construction and quite-decent glass. I figure I would have to spend two to three times more on a variable-power scope to retain the build quality and robustness, and gain some worthy...

    DIY Cheek Riser

Thanks to all! On a previous iteration of this rifle (stock SPS Tac) I had an adjustable kydex riser that functionally was fine, but required re-adjustment when it was removed and had large knobs on the cross bolts holding it in place; This DIY version accomplishes the same thing without...

Load Development - Front Rest or Bipod?

I have shot my best groups on a solid (no wobble) bench using bags and allowing the rifle to recoil in a consistent manner. That said, the rifle will recoil differently sitting on bags vs. being held and loaded on a bipod. Additionally, POI may be different between the two. For this reason...

    Pain in the neck!

    At 64 years old, over-weight and not nearly as flexible as I used to be, I can't get low either. This is how I need to set up for prone to shoot more than a few shots. I can go one notch lower but not for an afternoon of banging steel;

    DIY Cheek Riser

In desperate need of some support for my dense head when shooting prone, and not entirely thrilled at the usual options to gain some comb height (stock packs, stock modification with loggerhead hardware, etc.) I decided that I would attempt to make a riser out of kydex that would not require any...

    Gunsmithing Crooked Barrel??

Good point! My Badger M5 bottom metal needed a little fitting to accept a Timney 510.

    Gunsmithing Crooked Barrel??

There is stress on the receiver due to the receiver not fitting the chassis correctly. This could be an issue with the receiver, the chassis or a combination of both. You may want to start by looking for an obvious stress point that is causing the barreled action to shift when it is torqued...

    Gunsmithing Stock bedding tutorial

My main reason for roughing-up the fiberglass was to give the Marine Tex an little more surface area to adhere to - I wasn't concerned with a minimum thickness of bedding material. You could probably just use coarse sandpaper then wipe it down with acetone before applying the mud. Marine Tex is...
