Gunsmithing Drilling port holes ONLY in the grooves. How?

So I was looking at a few rifles that have ported barrels like the MP5SD, the VSS Vintorez and some integrally suppressed 10/22's and I noticed they all have the ports drilled in the groove. I presume for accuracy purposes. So, my question is, How do you indicate the groove so you can drill...

Rifle Scopes USO SN-12R any good?

I already have 2 SN-3 scopes, but I got a SN-12R in a trade. I'm not really sure what I'm going to do with it. Is it decent, and if so, whats a good application for it? I'm thinking basic M4.

Safe to SS tumble 50 bmg API bullets

I bought 1k of pulled and sized API bullets for reloading my 50, but they are kind of dirty, and I'm a clean freak. Will tumbling the bullets using my SS media in water and soap harm the incendiary effect of the round? I know that would kill a tracer bullet, with the component in the rear, but...

    Gunsmithing Threading Problem...

Re: Threading Problem... And Jared, another thing you can do is thread a test piece and only using the cross slide to cut deeper. (your last few passes should only be on the cross slide anyways) It will take much longer because you are cutting on both sides of the tool, but it will eliminate...

Gunsmithing Thread diagram for Gemtech HVT tensioning mount?

So I know I had a blueprint on how to thread and profile the barrel for a Gemtech HVT quickmount tensioning mount, but I seem to have misplaced it. The customer did not provide the mount. Does anyone have it and can email it to me? I'll send my PM via email. Much appreciated.

Gunsmithing Proper technique for cutting belted magnum chamber

I basically came up with my own process for reaming chambers for belted magnums on the Remington 700. Its worked so far. Can someone who is smarter than me please tell me if this is the best/prefered way to do it? #1 Thread barrel tenon for receiver. #2 Cut recess for bolt nose...

    Gunsmithing Case hardening compound replacement

My shophand spilt and threw out my can of Kasenit, thinking it was trash. I need to case harden a few parts to finish a job but can't find anyone with case hardening compound in stock at the moment. Is there a chemical substitute? Or does anyone have some left over they want to get rid of?

Gunsmithing Badger M5 front screw length?

I seem to have misplaced the front screw for an M5. I don't want to wait for it to come in from BO and was going to grab another 1/4x28 screw from the hardware store. All they have is 1" and I think thats too short. Can someone measure one real fast?

    Gunsmithing What constitutes "manufacturing"?

As an 07, I should have this memorized, but for some reason I can't locate it in the regs. Which acts are considered manufacturing? I have a couple of non-standard jobs that I am not sure if I have to mark or not.

Gunsmithing Too late to trim glasbed?

I usually trim after about 4 hours. I got sidetracked for an emergency and now I have let the glasbed cure for over 12 hours. I assume its going to be harder to trim, but its still feasible, right? The action popped out just fine at least.
