    Gunsmithing Shopfox M1112

I don’t know anything about the Shop Fox but I can tell you that you’ll spend at least as much on tooling as you do on the machine. I bought a lathe about 5 years ago with absolutely no prior machining experience and started cutting my own barrels, one of the best decisions I’ve ever made...

Well I just reread the original post lol! That might be tough since you say you want to upgrade the rifle also!

Rifle Scopes Looking for a hunting scope for dad

Swarovski Z5 or leupold vx-5hd is what I would consider for a hunting rifle. You might even find a z6 or vx-6hd in that price range, I haven’t priced either in awhile though

Suppressors Are suppressor covers really needed?

I’ve never heard of them helping with sound reduction but they definitely help with mirage. That being said, I hunt without one all the time.

Railchanger X w/ Shmedium vs Shmedium only?

Well, as the title suggests, I’ve been trying to decide between buying the Railchanger X and a Shmedium Railchanger or just ordering a plain Shmedium game changer. If anybody has experience with both, I would appreciate your feedback!

    Matches in Houston Texas area?

Look up TX Precision Matches, Dave Ferguson and Prentice Wink put on monthly matches there. They’re about an 30 minutes south of College Station, great bunch of folks down there

    Lets talk triggers

I’ll second the BnA Tacsport 2 stage, I have about 3k rounds on mine and absolutely love it! I have Timney, TT, and Jewells. All of them are much nicer than factory but the BnA is a notch above the rest in my opinion.

Gunsmithing If not pacific tool and gauge then who?

This advice is actually worth quite a bit more than what I gave earlier!

Gunsmithing If not pacific tool and gauge then who?

Kiff and Manson both sell a kit that includes raceway reamer, tap, bushings, etc. I have one, it’s a waste of money in my opinion. If I were to buy again I would get the raceway reamer and appropriate bushings and dial in off of that. If your lathe is rigid enough single pointing is the better...

Gunsmithing If not pacific tool and gauge then who?

Also, how many actions are you planning on “truing”? A kit might not be cost effective for you

Gunsmithing If not pacific tool and gauge then who?

The PT&G reamers I’ve ordered have all been good with the exception of 1. I switched to Manson to avoid the long wait times and because I could read the writing on the wall. Manson and JGS reamers are gtg, Manson customer service is also very good!

Range Report Is the 6X47 Lapua Easy to Load?

You’ve probably already made up your mind but I’ll add my 2 cents, go for it! Like Threadcutter and LawnMM said, stay around 2950 and it’ll be plenty easy to load for. The 2 barrels that I’ve had have been boringly easy!

    Gunsmithing welding question

Another thing I forgot to mention is paraffin, most of the 2-3/8” that I’ve seen has pockets of it if not slap full of it. If you’re using a chop saw be sure to get that stuff out of there. A shop hammer and some elbow grease will break up the slag and paraffin inside, it sounds crude but it...

    Gunsmithing welding question

Shade 10 works fine. If it’s drill pipe, it’s usually magnetized so you’ll have to wrap your ground around the pipe. 1/8” 6010 5p+ rods work fine unless it’s gonna see much abuse ( catch pen, etc ) then I’d use 7018.

    Precision Rifles.....show em!!

You’re welcome, I couldn’t believe my eyes the first time I set it on there! I had to weigh it 3 more times just to convince myself that it wasn’t a 12-13 lb rifle.
