differerence between gas and piston AR uppers

Re: differerence between gas and piston AR uppers Just did a little reading and I'm getting all kinds of mixed reviews....for the price though, I think I'm going to stick with what I know.

differerence between gas and piston AR uppers

I'm building another upper but up until recently had never seen the piston style uppers. Can I build this style with a regular bare upper and lower, or are the parts specific to the piston type? And is there anywhere I can get schematics or detailed info on them?

Gunsmithing Clean or not to Clean that is the question?

Re: Clean or not to Clean that is the question? I only clean when I notice accuracy going south. Typically it's once a hunting season. I will ritually clean all my rifles and put them all away. I have always found that over cleaning is not only a waste of time, but a huge waste of barrel life.

    Sudden accuracy degradation ?

Re: Sudden accuracy degradation ? I used to have a savage that would shoot 1/2moa without fail, and it would do the same when it was dirty. However when I did a basic cleaning (no copper cleaner etc.) the cold bore shot would be 14" low every time, without fail. I would have to clean it at...

    marlin model 60 accurizing.

Re: marlin model 60 accurizing. yeah I'm looking at floating the barrel. but with the tube feed I am looking into disconnecting it from the barrel so I can float it completely. I have found a lot of good info (starting with a good trigger job) on rimfirecentral. I have a lot of work ahead...

    marlin model 60 accurizing.

Re: marlin model 60 accurizing. It's nice to know I'm not the only one with an old 60 out there, and really it's not so much trying to make it a one-ragged-hole shooter, as much as it is me not being able to leave well enough alone. I shoot it, so I might as well try to make it shoot better...

    marlin model 60 accurizing.

because I've had this rifle for what seems like a million years, I'd like to keep shooting it. I searched and came up with zero tips for accurizing this rifle. Anyone have one and get it to shoot decent? How'd you do it?

    Walther SP22

Re: Walther SP22 I owned one when they first came out, then had to register it as an assault weapon when CA figured the threaded barrel meant it was an assault weapon. It shot great, but I only held on to it for a few months.

Rifle Scopes Does anyone still use duplex reticle only?

Re: Does anyone still use duplex reticle only? All of my scopes are heavy duplex with or some variation of like a 4a reticle. For hunting it works for me. I like the least amount of clutter as possible, and I use a range finder if I think the target is beyond 300 anyhow.

    How Short for a 700P?

Re: How Short for a 700P? nearly every rifle I own (heck it may be every one) has a 20" or less barrel. I do not like front heavy rifles. You will not regret cutting it to 20".

Rifle Scopes Super Sniper Variable Power

Re: Super Sniper Variable Power This seems like a great option for lower end optics, but I really just hope they hold up to the reputation of their fixed power scope.

Rifle Scopes clarity and light gathering comparisons.

Re: clarity and light gathering comparisons. I have always been a huge Nikon supporter. I own 2 Monarchs as a Buckmaster and they are great for day work, but they fail miserably for night work.

Rifle Scopes clarity and light gathering comparisons.

Re: clarity and light gathering comparisons. sorry, I have a tendency to say light gathering, I mean light transmission. Yes Sig685 you are right, I am sure I will notice a difference between the 40 and the 56, but I doubt I will notice the difference between the 50 and 56. Mostly what I am...
