2014 JP Rifles Mammoth Sniper Challenge

I got excited today when i did a quick trial pack to see if I could get all the gear in the pack, and tested weight. I'm just looking forward to being outside and putting some miles in. The colder the weather, the more I just view it as challenging fun. Bring on the snow!

    Sidearms & Scatterguns 1911 Question/Comparison

If it comes down to a gunfight in some of the worst places on the planet, the Glock is going to have more cartridges in the magazine, will function dry, muddy, sandy, or cracked, and will live through the abuse, moisture, salt, and every-changing environments you may go through. The 1911 is a...

Sidearms & Scatterguns looking to buy first 1911

If you're willing to spend a little more, I would take the time to read and research more options than just the SA or Kimber. If I had to choose between SA or Kimber, I would go with SA. I don't like the reliability issues with Kimber. They make a pretty pistol and do a good job marketing it...

Help me with a softshell jacket/system. I read about too many and need help from the Hide

Hiking, moving, shooting in different weapons, conditions, mediums? If color/design is not a factor, then you definitely need to be looking at companies that specialize in technical outdoor clothing. A lot of guys get stuck looking at the tactical/military brands which are not as good in...

what to expect after shoulder surgery?

SLAP tears, torn bicep tendon, cracked coracoid bone, torn deltoid, torn supraspinatus - one surgery for all. Get a recliner. You'll need it for sleeping in the first two weeks. I've always been in very good shape, and my work is physically active and at times demanding. I was using my...

Rifle Scopes Looking for possible replacement of my Bushnell HDMR H59

FWIW, I find that the illuminated reticle is difficult to see in lowlight conditions (dusk/dawn). Has to do with the type of color of light at the early morning or late evening hours - the red blends into the hue of the environment. I have a NF F1.

Sidearms & Scatterguns At a total loss trying to get a Safariland holster for my Sig 226

What he said. Also, be aware that Safariland is not going to make holsters to specifically fit some of the variations of the P226. Some of the models (elite, elite dark, etc.) are different not only in the rails, grip, and trigger guard, but also in the slide width and checkering.

Sidearms & Scatterguns 1911 - what would you spend $1000 - 2000 on if you had the cash

1911's can be an addiction. They are just so damn pretty, rugged, badass, and sexy all at once. Nothing beats a good sidearm. Want to start the addiction?? 1911Forum - Powered by vBulletin

Sidearms & Scatterguns 1911 - what would you spend $1000 - 2000 on if you had the cash

I own Nighthawk, but that's out of your price range unless you can find used. I'd stay away from Kimber. They do a great job marketing; I'm not thrilled about their quality. For the vicinity of $1000, I would look at Springfield, STI (a little too race-gun-ish for me), Dan Wesson. If you...

    Boots

Danner if you want American made. They are built to last, but I am less than impressed with the design and quality for rugged use or any kind of trekking/backpacking use. Lowa La Sportiva Scarpa Hanweg Asolo I have tested/abused all these brands extensively, and they have been superb...

    School me on tripods!

Smooth ball head that can hold weight, make micro/smooth adjustments, stable/strong legs, as light in weight as possible, strong materials, ease of use...all criteria for the pros using any kind of film or photography equipment. Criteria, in my opinion, is all the same for precision shooting or...

Who has a watch they like?

I like Tagheuer and have had a few. That being said, the two best watches I've had that have "computer gizmos" and have withstood daily beatings and extended adventures are the CASIO G-Shock MUDMAN and the SUUNTO VECTOR.

Mystery Ranch 3 Day Assault BVS

45.308 is just speaking out of experience. A lot of us with a ton of back-country miles will have this same opinion about the Mystery Ranch packs. That being said, the Assault Pack and most of the Mystery Rach packs are made for a different job. Dana has always had "heavy" designs with bells...
