Re: I need to vent! "Tactical" shopping... (Long) I just HATE stupid. If you're a racist, elitist, or whatever, at least know what you're talking about... I understand how people can dislike one another (not that it's right, mind you) but when you are a...

I need to vent! "Tactical" shopping... (Long)

I went out to get some reloading stuff and saw a store that had "Tactical" in it's name, so I stopped by to see what kinda stuff they had in stock. There were some really cool military firearms on the walls that belonged to the owner's father. Garands, M14's, some Winchester 97 Trench Guns...

Range Report Dual purpose ammo (Steel & Hunting)

Re: Dual purpose ammo (Steel & Hunting) I haven't gotten out around here, the only areas I have been hunting in so far is GMU 6 and GMU 20. The locals don't take too much to having "non-sourdough" types along for the ride... I got a blackie out of PWS, and hope to get a sheep one day.

Range Report Dual purpose ammo (Steel & Hunting)

Re: Dual purpose ammo (Steel & Hunting) That is true BOLTRIPPER, although, after re-thinking my previous load (and using up the last bit of powder and last bullet), I need to buy some more powder and bullets. I figured that I'd be better served with heavier, faster, less-deflected bullets in...

Range Report Dual purpose ammo (Steel & Hunting)

After working up .308 Winchester loads (for a 20" stock Remington SPS Tactical) using 168 grain Berger “hunting” bullets, I am planning to use the 185 grain version of the same bullet for the range as well as the field. What I plan to achieve is better exterior ballistics. When looking at...

New off the shelf 700 or Savage?

Re: New off the shelf 700 or Savage? +1 on the "Savage vs. Remington = Chevy vs. Ford". I'm a life-long Remington 700 fan, my best friend is a Savage guy and I shoot his rifles as accurately as I do mine. The biggest issue is what you're comfortable with. Remington seems to have a wider...

Might be a stoopid question. Military brass crimp

Re: Might be a stoopid question. Military brass crimp Thanks Mitch. That's what I was thinking, but wasn't sure as to how they would make it so that the primer wouldn't detonate...

Might be a stoopid question. Military brass crimp

After spending a LOT of time clearing crimps on Lake City brass, I was wondering... How in the good name of decency do they get the brass crimped AFTER seating a primer?

    Swage or uniform primer pocket?

Re: Swage or uniform primer pocket? After looking at it again, I am going to attempt to readjust the pocket uniformer so that it cuts shallower and skip the swage if the pocket uniformer can be adjusted. If it cannot be adjusted, I'm going to skip uniforming. The last loads were very good...

    Swage or uniform primer pocket?

On my once-fired LC brass, I swaged 200 rounds (with the RCBS swager) before I got my primer pocket uniformer. When I inserted primers in the swaged brass, the primers seated very easily. When I uniformed the pocket alone (using an RCBS uniformer in the Case Prep Center), the crimp was gone, the...

Hunting & Fishing hunting for the blind

Re: hunting for the blind AWESOME!!! Maybe you could serve as an inspiration to more parents. My father took me to the woods on every hunting trip, but felt that my deaf twin brother wouldn't do well, so he stayed at home. I'm working on getting him out now, 30+ years later.

.308 168 Gr. Berger VLD load testing

Re: .308 168 Gr. Berger VLD load testing Mine are running an average of 2455. Not too bad, I think that I will try up to 44 grains in .5 increments, maybe a hotter load will still show good accuracy.
