    Who's book #'s do i trust?

I’ve noticed Hornady loads are very conservative. When working up my load I loaded a couple rounds in .3-.4 increments up to Hodgdons max watching for pressure signs (flat primers, hard bolt lift) and had no issues. I settled on 43.8. Edit: I was loading for eld-x.

Bore sighted rifle for ladder test

This is what I do except I do my ladders at 500-700 yards. The farther you can shoot the clearer your results will be. You should be able to get a good zero at 100 in 6 rounds, use a chronograph, you can use that to figure drop. Figure few rounds at distance to get on paper. I usually load...

What are the “builds” in your head?

I have a Weatherby Vanguard (Howa 1500) in 22-250 that I have been thinking about rebarreling for a while now. Seeing Criterion is going to be doing Savage style pre-fits has me thinking of doing a 6.5 Creedmoor with a Bell and Carlson target/competition stock. Maybe a Timney trigger. And a...

    DIY ELFSTER'S ~$100 annealer!

I have parts on order for something very similar. I saw this a while back and started researching diy annealers, I came across a thread on AR15.com with some good ideas I am going to give a shot like a automatic feeder. It will add to the cost, but will still come in much less than a...

    Hunting & Fishing Hunting clothing

I have bought almost all my hunting clothes out of the bargain cave at Cabelas or clearance racks. Decide on the features you want and go shopping.

    Case rim variances??

That is exactly what happened with mine. Some fit fine and I would have to force others. For the price of a new shell holder you would at least eliminate it as a possibility.

    Case rim variances??

I had the same issue with Lapua .308 (tight in shell holder) with my Lee hand primer. I got a new shell holder and all is good.

    Savage 10t-sr false advertising?

I have one in .308. I don’t know what the rifling is, but it shoots great. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

Hunting & Fishing Long Range Hunting

We cannot know anything with the information at hand. A hundred different scenarios could have led to that bullet winding up there. We can't even say for certain that that bullet was intended for that animal. If you want to see poor shot placement, go on a whitetail drive where every shot is at...

OCW vs Ladder vs Plain FPS

If 500 yards is the farthest you expect to shoot and the results are consistent, then I would use load 2. Velocity spread makes a greater difference the farther out you go. I do ladder tests at the farthest I expect to shoot that particular rifle.

OCW vs Ladder vs Plain FPS

What I like about a ladder test is that it focuses on down range results, not expecting results based on other data. True, low SD/ES usually translates to good results down range, but why not make your decisions based on what is actually happening at the ranges you will be shooting. I can see...

Going back a page on iPhone

On my 7 I just drag from left to right.

    Rifle Scopes Scope too high

It sounds like, even with low rings, you will need to build up the comb. I used pipe insulation and that medical tape that only sticks to itself (Vetrap purchased at TSC). There are other, better options but it will get the job done since I plan to get an adjustable stock in the near future.

    Do it all hunting rifle?

I can tell you from experience that this is some great advice. When purchasing my first “long range” rifle I took the advice of a friend and bought a R700 5r in 300WM. I shot it for a couple years and had good results, but I got to the point that I had to psych myself up just to get behind it to...

Is it even worth doing a donor rifle build anymore?

You could go with a Remage setup for the 700. I am personally not a fan of chassis', so I would go Savage or Remington, or even get a custom action and use a Remage barrel. There are a lot of options out there.

    Post your Hunting/Shooting Vehicle Here

95 extended cab s10. Full of rust and has a few leaks, but it's paid for and gets the job done.

    Recommendation on cleaning brass

Fired brass goes in the tumbler with corn cob for a couple hours before sizing. After sizing (with Imperial wax) they go back in for about 20 minutes, that seems to be enough to get the lube off. I use a standard full length sizing die so they get decapped during sizing. I used to use an...

    Reloading startup recommendations

I have to disagree. I have a Lee classic cast and produce sub half-moa ammo with it. I have seen no difference between ammo loaded on it and ammo loaded on my dad's rockchucker. Along with the Lee press, I use a 505 scale, Forster trimmer, and Redding standard dies. As far as upgrading, I would...

    Messed Up 223 Trainer Build

You could just sell it and get what you want. It would get a few more dollars as a new, unfired rifle.
