Photos Stockwork for my step son's savage MKII

Re: Stockwork for my step son's savage MKII It started life as a factory second, unfinished, rough shaped, right handed Boyd's tacticool stock. It's "plywood" also known as laminate. Now it's about 30% sanded and left handed. I still have a lot of work...

Photos Stockwork for my step son's savage MKII

He shoots his Savage in the NRA YHEC program. The factory stock has WAY too much drop even for the iron sights. This should fix it. Still looking for ideas on stock finish. Probably will go with some opaque texture paint from the pistol grip to the swell on the forend to cover the old bolt notch...

Rifle Scopes Burris PEPR mount w/ Nightforce BIG elev. PROBLEM

Re: Burris PEPR mount w/ Nightforce BIG elev. PROBLEM Sounds like you need a new PEPR or something is wrong with the scope. If it was a 20moa base or something, you'd have a hard time getting LOW ENOUGH on the target, not have trouble getting high enough. The bore to scope centerline is...

Rifle Scopes 6x Super Sniper - anybody got one yet?

Just saw the 6x Super Sniper on SWFA. Anybody have one yet? I'm probably going to buy one.

Rifle Scopes Burris PEPR mount w/ Nightforce BIG elev. PROBLEM

Re: Burris PEPR mount w/ Nightforce BIG elev. PROBLEM Check to make sure that the mount is on all the way and on correctly, so that it's not tilting the scope downward. The PEPR isn't a 20moa or something is it? And turn it counter-clockwise to raise the point of impact.

Can't get comfortable with a good sight picture

Re: Can't get comfortable with a good sight picture No, the profile that is created where my cheek contacts is too wide when compared to the profile of he top of the stock. This is just the nature of the part.

    Subsonic 308 w/ SR4759

Re: Subsonic 308 w/ SR4759 or AA5744? You might try crimping with a LEE factory crimp die with the slower powders, but some people warn against crimping with reduced loads.

    Subsonic 308 w/ SR4759

Re: Subsonic 308 w/ SR4759 or AA5744? Reviews are mixed on that one with anything slower than a 1:10 twist. I will probably try some someday.

Can't get comfortable with a good sight picture

Re: Can't get comfortable with a good sight picture The Karsten is too wide for me on my 5R HSP stock with low rings and I now have holes in my stock. YMMV

Can't get comfortable with a good sight picture

Re: Can't get comfortable with a good sight picture Be careful making your cheek piece tall so that you do not make it wider. Wider will move your cheek further from the centerline of the rifle and force you to roll your head over to get a sight picture - which is also uncomfortable.

    Re: Subsonic 308 w/ SR4759 or AA5744? Anybody tried the Lapua subsonic 200gr bullet in a 1:11 or 1:12 twist? http://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/product/productId/9566

    .308 win. recoil

Re: .308 win. recoil It depends. It's pretty fierce out of a 4lb, 15" Encore Pistol no matter what you do. Most people probably would start flinching on a second box of 20 in a standard sporter type rifle (less than 8lb fully dressed) shooting from the bench with poor technique. Not bad...

    Reloading for SBRs

Re: Reloading for SBRs There is nothing different about loading for a short barrel. Check out single shot handgun loading data. The same powders that are best for velocity for a cartridge in a long barrel are best in a short one. Faster powders produce higher pressures and/or lower velocity...

    Subsonic 308 w/ SR4759

Re: Subsonic 308 w/ SR4759 or AA5744? It should work. XMR-5744 is used in the Savage smokeless capable muzzle loaders. You should also be able to find some loads for SR4759 for reduced .30-06 loads that will get you in the ball park - that's what it was designed for. Try Speer manuals.

    Range Report .300 Whisper/ 300-221/etc ballistics

Can anyone share actual drop charts for a whisper or 300-221 with the heavy, high BC bullets like the 220-240SMKs? I want to compare what the calculators say to what people are getting in real life before I spend the $$$ on a whisper.

Frustrated with RCBS 502 beam scale

Re: Frustrated with RCBS 502 beam scale Any kind of airflow around the scale will effect it. Turn off the A/C, heat, and any other fans. Don't work in a drafty area and also check the knife-edges that the scale pivots on for corrosion or gunk. Scrape it off and steel wool it if it is there...
