    Surgeon Action???

AI doesn't have a huge backlog of customer orders for rifle actions, and has customer service and timeliness that makes Surgeon's pale in comparison. Surgeon may become something different than they were and eventually be successful at it, but the way they've managed it was bound to alienate...

    School me on gun safes

Fort Knox's best safes appear to be UL listed as residential security containers, and I certainly wouldn't rank them among the best. Same goes for Liberty, and they make some of their safes in China (if for some reason that matters to you). Nothing wrong with them if you need a cheap way of...

Question about using Forster Co-Ax Press priming tool

It's fine, but it will go a lot faster with a dedicated hand-held tool. I have a Forster co-ax, and bought the RCBS tool for priming cases. John

2015 Heisman Winner - Nick Marshall

Marcus Mariota also seems a promising Heisman candidate. A bit surprised he didn't go pro, but it's already a pretty rich class for quarterbacks.

Rifle Scopes Weaver scopes????? anyone tried them?

Waver is generally a pretty good value for what you spend, and stands behind their stuff. Wicked, it would be good to hear when you get your scope back from repair.

Can "Like" some threads, others not available...

Seems like a per-forum setting that someone could spend a minute making sure is turned on for every forum. This has been a problem since the forum software change a long time ago.

    Rem 700 triggers?

If you aren't quite ready to give up on the trigger you've already got, a $7 replacement spring may make it adjustable to your liking. Check out: Trigger Springs|Aluminum Pillar|Pillar Bedding|Gunsmithing for reduced pull weight trigger springs for various Remingtons. I've tried them, and...

    Gunsmithing New Sites up!

The bright blue text has to go, especially the bold stuff. The darker blue is better, but there's not much contrast with a dark background. Nice to have more info available, in any event. John

Sig Sauer SSG 3000 full write up and myths clarified.

It appears that the difficulty in rebarreling the rifle has been a huge impediment to adoption here - most smiths simply won't touch one. There are several threads like this one: http://www.snipershide.com/shooting/sniper-hide-gunsmithing/83002-new-sig-ssg-3000-barrel.html It's good to hear...

    Twist rates- Faster is better!

Yes, I agree completely. Dynamic stability problems are really exacerbated in the bullet's transonic region, and the SMK 168 is still a beloved and accurate bullet for distances under 800-900 yards.

    Twist rates- Faster is better!

Most people use only enough twist to properly stabilize the most unstable bullet they anticipate shooting in a given rifle because excess twist (i.e., above a gyroscopic stability factor around 1.4-2.0) can result in a less stable bullet at the muzzle and through the first couple hundred yards...

Was told blue printing/truing isn't all that good?

Look at the Longrifles Remington action truing group buy in the for sale section - it doesn't cost much to have a Remington action spot-on trued up. The group buy prices for chambering a new barrel are also tough to beat. John

Upgrade to a Dillon 550 or buy a Chargemaster?

A Chargemaster is ideal for loading precision rifle rounds, especially if reprogrammed and modified using some of the hacks posted online. For pistol, I've been content to calibrate a cheapo Lee powder dispenser using the chargemaster's scale, and re-check every couple hundred rounds. I'm...

Different sized flash holes in same lot of brass? Drill them out the same or not?

Yep, the one tool does both in one shot. From what I've found, I'm more surprised by the burrs that come out of Lake City brass than the occasional slightly small flash hole. But, the ones with slightly small flash holes usually are the ones with huge burrs inside. With the Lyman tool, you...

Different sized flash holes in same lot of brass? Drill them out the same or not?

Yeah, it's not really drilling that you want to do so much as using a flash hole uniformer to remove the burr left in the cartridge after the flash hole is created. I've used this on a bunch of Lake City brass with good results: Lyman Flash Hole Uniformer | Sinclair Intl I unscrewed it from...

Is a $600 pair of binos worth it?

I recently bought a pair of Nikon Moncarch 7's (8x42), because they were the last binocular where I could see a significant difference between it and cheaper pairs. They are right in the middle of your price range: Nikon Monarch 7 8x42mm Binoculars FREE S&H 7548. Nikon Binoculars. If you want...
