I am going to do the Rem Varmint contour at 22". HS Precision stock.. (very light, Idk what model) PTG DBM, Karsten cheek rest and stock pack, Harris 3-6 bipod, and SWFA 3-15 scope. I am hoping it comes in at 10#
Does that sound doable?
I am still not sure on the bullet weight. I am aware that the 308 is up there now! :) But since i have a long action laying around I figured I might as well just go with the old '06.

So I have read a lot of info lately and I often come across the statement that one cartridge has more inherent accuracy than another. My question is... how the hell is one "more accurate" than another?
It seems to me that ACCURACY is directly related to REPEAT-ABILITY. If a bullet comes out of...
Thanks for the quick responses but gosh... Its so thin! I almost want to go with the heavy varmint contour and get several flutes or something! I am kinda limited to these two contours because they are the only ones in stock and have the right twist rate for my build!
Does anyone have pictures...

I am debating between a Bartlein #3 for my 30-06 build... or a 1.250x 5.00 taper to .900 Barrel with fluting. I hate looking at skinny little barrels but I need to find a happy medium for a practical hunting/ range gun.
The barrel will probably be 22" (I know I know 30-06 uses longer...
Not a fan of longer barrels. Primary use is hunting. Would it be a waste of the extra powder in just a 22" tube? Obviously a 24-26 would be better for velocity's sake.. but would a 22" barrel give a significant enough difference to use the 30-06 over a 308? Anyonw know the numbers on a 22" 06 vs...
Wow. I just read the above comments and someone already used "bees knees" . Forget I just said that. I had no clue anyone else said that....
Anyways...
I think the AR junkies wouldn't mind a bolt action rifle that has a compatable mag system. Its also the bees knees because it looks cool. That's all the reasoning you need to get one.
My buddy has one. Mossberg .223 and he loves it because it takes his 30 round AR mags. He threw a BDC scope on there and swears by it. It is a sweet gun and I think his bolt came fluted if I remember correctly.
I completely agree. 22, 308 and 223 is impossible to find. Everyone and their mother and all the mall ninjas stock up on it in a hurry. My 17 hmr was always to be found and same with 270 and '06. I think its crucial to have an oddball or two in the safe.
Is there a drop in DBM that accepts AI mags? In a local gunshop today, I found a DROP IN DBM for my HS precision stock for $300+ but it used some kind of HS precision mags :/
I am about to pick up a PTG (Pacific Tool Gauge) Detachable Bottom Metal for my HS precision stock (700 long action)
Was wondering if this is something I can do with some files and sandpaper... or if I need a mill or a gunsmith?
I have read many mixed reviews. Same say they did it in 30...
Couldnt tell you what model it was :/ It had a slim barrel on it. Nothing too thick. It was fairly lightweight. The man behind the counter said it was brand new, never been used but it had been making the rounds as a display piece although he did not understand why because he considered it a...
