    Re: Is a chronograph necessary? You can work around the lack of a chrony. In the end you are going to be judging true drop anyway. However a chrony is nice to make sure a given load is giving you the speed you want. No sense shooting a 300 WM and if you are only getting 06 speeds.

    Re: Help a newbie pick an optic The other posters have given good advice. Since you are not going beyond 500 yards any of the scopes mentioned will work fine. I still encourage buying used on a top end scope. It is far cheaper to buy once and know that you have and can enjoy good equipment.
