Gunsmithing Headspacing of Rem 700 Take-off

Re: Headspacing of Rem 700 Take-off Spin it on, chuck a gage in there, and see. Its the only way to know. But as Singleshot said, the action by itself is probably gonna fetch as much as the rifle.

Gunsmithing A question for the gunsmiths here.....

Re: A question for the gunsmiths here..... Did you edit your post? Its seems to have shrunk, or it just looks smaller next to the rambling crap I just posted. No more late night coffee.

Gunsmithing A question for the gunsmiths here.....

Re: A question for the gunsmiths here..... Add Pin gages and a laser bore sighter to your list. The head space is set off of the locking shoulder, and you determine which one you need by swapping out different diameter pin gages until you get satisfactory headspace. Then you either dig into...

    Gunsmithing Best Aftermarket Barrel

Re: Best Aftermarket Barrel The husbands old M24 has had Rock, Hart, Kreiger, and Shilen tubes on it. His preference is Mike Rock, for that rifle. Me? I can't tell the difference enough as I'm still a novice on precicion long guns. I think its a personal taste thing.

Gunsmithing I am in need of some help?

Re: I am in need of some help? Good luck. We have one and wouldn't get rid of it. For some reason they quit making them and finding one is like finding a sober virgin at ASU. There was someone who made a similar clone and sold it on ebay. But haven't seen them in a while. Where in KS are you at?

    Photos Now that is dedication!

Re: Now that is dedication! Dedication? Yeah, I guess that's one choice of word to describe it. Not the one I'd choose... but to each his or her own.

    Gunsmithing M&P 15-22 New barrel

Re: M&P 15-22 New barrel Yes, it can be done. Anything can be done, with enough money NASA could make an outhouse into a lunar rocket... The issue is cost effectiveness. We've got an upper that just came in. If you'd like I'll post pics detailing the stripped upper and the reasons its...

    Gunsmithing Romanian AK-47

Re: Romanian AK-47 We used to have the jigs and could press a barrel out of a trunion still in the receiver. But, its a risky venture. Hell, just pressing the barrel pin out can be tough enough. I dunno. Personally I'd want a nice Krink to SBR, not a Romy. But it can be done. There used to...

    Gunsmithing build a rifle

Re: build a rifle The 30-06 and 338LM have very little in common dimensionally. Google the case dimensions and you'll see. Plus there have been a lot of discussions on the durability of the standard 700 action in regards to the 338LM. The bolt thrust figures and such that are way above my...

    Gunsmithing build a rifle

Re: build a rifle Not worth the money you'd spend. Nothing would be compatible (bolt, follower/magazine, etc.) For a 338LM you'de be better off buying a built rifle in that caliber or start with a custom action designed for the job. My $0.02. YMMV

Gunsmithing New AR15 Fire Control Group Problem?

Re: New AR15 Fire Control Group Problem? The disconnector spring could be inverted also. Its slightly wider (looser wrap) at the bottom end that sets into the trigger to help hold it in place, and can wedge in and loose the "springyness" upside down. That would cause the disconnector to not...

    Gunsmithing "Re-activating" a de-milled 1903-A3 drill rifle?

Re: "Re-activating" a de-milled 1903-A3 drill rifle? Here is a link to the 03A3 we built for the father in law. He shoots handloads through it and its a sub MOA shooter all day when he holds up his end. 03A3 thread

    Gunsmithing "Re-activating" a de-milled 1903-A3 drill rifle?

Re: "Re-activating" a de-milled 1903-A3 drill rifle? The older method demil's described above are no longer considered non-guns. To buy an 03A3 thats got a plugged barrel tacked to the front rec ring it has to be transferred to an FFL (C&R is eligible). The new standard for an 03A3 demil is...

    Gunsmithing M&P 15-22 New barrel

Re: M&P 15-22 New barrel The handguard and upper are held together by the barrel and barrel nut. Our tool is a long tube that slides down over the barrel and has 4 teeth that engage the notches on the nut. Over time the nuts get loose and accuracy tend to suffer. Its easy enough to home...

    Gunsmithing M&P 15-22 New barrel

Re: M&P 15-22 New barrel Have you ever tightened the barrel nut? A lot of folks have noticed an improvement in groups just making sure the nut is tight. Don't know why I forgot to meniton that.

Gunsmithing Would you get a 40X stock inlet for a DBM?

Re: Would you get a 40X stock inlet for a DBM? You know what opinions are like... If you aren't borrowing the money to get it done who gives a shit? Walnut and steel may not be the latest and greatest, but little else compares to the way they feel in your hand. Go for it, and screw anyone...

    Gunsmithing dragunov rebuild

Re: dragunov rebuild What exact make/model is it? If its a Romy PSL or similar the barrels are not threaded into the receiver. They are pressed and pinned. The issue is that you have to be VERY careful pressing the cross pin out (screw it up and it'll have to be milled out and...

    Gunsmithing M&P 15-22 New barrel

Re: M&P 15-22 New barrel Trust me, caliber is not the limiting factor and nobody here disregards 22lr as a 'real gun'. Ask anyone with a custom Anschutz 22 and see what they paid. Or go look at Chad Dixons thread on re-barreling a Rem 40X 22lr. If you've ever heard of an egg gun you know...

    Gunsmithing M&P 15-22 New barrel

Re: M&P 15-22 New barrel The barrel diameter is limited due to the back loading nature of the upper. I thought we had the dimensions of the barrel nut here, but I cant find them. But if the heaviest part of the barrel is much more than .800" I'd be suprised. The ring that holds the...
