My father had a minor back injury and was recommended by his doctor to use a lead sled to sight in and develop a load for his 300 win mag for an elk hunt. I mentioned this in conversation with a local smith who highly advised against the lead sled use. His reasoning was that each shot...

New to long distance shooting looking for build help.

Ask yourself a few questions: 1. Budget 2. Handload or factory ammo 3. Willingness to wait The 30-06 can be a good long range caliber imho, I have one so I might be biased. The ADL (again imho) is not an ideal starting point as it is specifically a hunting configuration. The barrel is a light...

Re: NF mil-spec F1 on a Rem 700SS 5R tactical The NF base in the Mile High link you posted should work well. Not sure about the Mil-Spec F1's but the regular F1's come with NF Ultra Light medium height rings. I have run both the Seekins Vortex low height and the NF UL mediums. With my...

Anyone ever left a soda on the roof of their car?

Re: Anyone ever left a soda on the roof of their car? This past Thanksgiving, wife and I swapped cars for me to go to work in the morning so she could pack the truck for our trip. When it was time to leave, I drove the first leg of the trip. We stopped for sodas about 100 miles down the...

    stock on Winchester M70

Re: stock on Winchester M70 The best way to get an answer to this question would be to inquire with the manufacturer of the stock that you are interested in. I bet a quick PM to hide member Thomas Manners (of Manners Composite Stocks) would clarify any questions that you have. FWIW I...

    Rifle Scopes NF mil-spec F1 on a Rem 700SS 5R tactical

Re: NF mil-spec F1 on a Rem 700SS 5R tactical OP, that is a great setup for getting into long range shooting. As green338 stated above, a 20 MOA base and rings from any of those manufacturers will get you out and shooting.

    Rifle Scopes Bedding Scope Base?

Re: Bedding Scope Base? I used red loctite when I bedded my Badger rail to my Model 70 long action. 1. Mock up the rail to ensure that it fits and screw holes align. 2. Used rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball to ensure both surfaces were free of any debris or fibers. 3. Ran a thin bead of...
