    Quick question for the AI folks.

    I have an AT large firing pin and shoot SRP brass in 6.5 Creedmoor and 6.5x47L and have never pierced a primer. I think CCI primers have a thicker cup which helps I'm sure. I haven't tried federal small primers yet.

    I haven't yet. I've shot the 4 peaks match at Rio Solado in Mesa. I'm hoping to get out to the AZLRPRS matches this year. I got my 6.5 creed barrel with 250 rounds on it, my load has stayed at 2850 since I started using it. I'm at 2,000 rounds now so I will recheck it to see if it has changed...

    I got 2850 from a bartlein 26" barrel using reloader 16 in Lapua SRP brass. I'm also in AZ and shot it all last summer with no issues. I tried H4350 but didn't get the same speeds without pressure signs.

    I started with a savage rifle and then a Tikka. I would shoot maybe 500 rounds per year. After I got my AI I now shoot almost every weekend and have three different caliber barrels. It is so much better and more accurate than my Savage which made me want to shoot more.

    The problem I run into with H4350 is that to reach the higher speeds I'm at 42 grains which is a compressed load. Varget gets the same speeds with less case fill and no compressed powder.

    I use 37.5 grains of varget with a Berger 130 VLD. 37.5 seems to be a common accuracy load for many people in this cartridge. I get 2880 from a 26in barrel.

    What range of power do you run with RL17? I have some I would like to try with 123 scenars and 130 norma GT's.

    I have had great results with Varget and no issues with compressed loads. H4350 works well too but uses more powder so some loads will have some crunch depending on seating depth. 37.5 of Varget is a very common accuracy load with this cartridge. I use this and I have an SD of 4 over 10 shots...

    The last episode on the podcast Adam spoke about working up in 0.5 grain increments until seeing pressure signs and then working just below max to find a load for the specific barrel. Maybe load one round per charge and find the max charge for your barrel and then do an OCW up to your known max...

    I run them at .030" off the lands and that's working well for me. I'm right at 2850 fps in a 26" 8 twist.

    Pros and Cons 6.5 Small Primer vs. Large Primer

    I have an AIAT with the large firing pin and shoot small primer brass in 308, 6.5 Creedmoor and 6.5x47L. I haven't pierced any primers or had any noticable issues.

    It has been for me. I dont see huge temp swings where I'm at. There's been a few tests done from people who posted them on the internet showing it was as good or better than H4350 as far as temp sensitivity goes.

    I have found reloaded 16 to produce higher speeds than H4350 without signs of pressure and with good accuracy and SD's.

    I also run an ultra 7 and use the same load with and without it. I almost always shoot with the can on though.

    Definitely reccomend the 419 base. Not only is it heavier but you can adjust the feet to fine tune the angle of the tube.
