    .243 load ladder questions

You need to find some H4350, which is hard as hell to find. If you can't find that, get some RL16, which is the next best thing. Great accuracy, and you should gain some fps.

    Best varmint bullet / cartridge

204 Ruger without a doubt. Fast, accurate, and effective. Pelt friendly too. Not much left of a bobcat with a some of these cartridges suggested. 204 puts a pin hole in one side, and rarely exits. If it does it's usually the size of a quarter. It's also fast enough that you just point and shoot...

Well this is a first... failure to fire

From the pics, it looks like a primer seating depth issue to me. The fired one looks normal, as it would have moved back to the bolt face after firing. The other two look extremely deep to me. My two cents.

    Howa HCR 6.5 CM

Well, I competed in my first production class prs match this last weekend. I'm glad to say that I won the production class, and finished 27th overall of 79 shooters. Gun did exactly what it was supposed to. I on the other hand could have done much better. With practice, I hope to move up several...

    Howa HCR 6.5 CM

So I just picked up a Howa HCR chambered in 6.5 creedmoor from Buds Guns. On sale for $850 shipped, with an additional ffl cost of $25 at Cal Ranch. I bought this to use in the PRS production class. I topped it with a steel 20 moa picatinny rail made...

    Howa HCR 6.5 CM

Well I didn't have time to do any load work up, so I just sat down and loaded up 15 rounds of the 42.5 gr RL16, so I could at least finish breaking the barrel in. I'm pleased to report that the rifle shoots GREAT. I zeroed at 200 yards. Cleaned the barrel, and then shot a group at 500 yards...

7mm Rem Mag Recoil - How bad is it?

    You'll live without the brake.

7mm Rem Mag Recoil - How bad is it?

Recoil is very manageable. With a brake on it, they don't kick bad at all. A 30-06 kicks worse than any 7 mag I've ever shot. The 7 mag is capable of killing any animal in north America within the distances you've listed. It's one of my personal favorite calibers. It's common, easy to load for...

    Howa HCR 6.5 CM

Nice I like it. Yeah I need to probably come up with a better way to support the targets for sure. I just used what bolts I had laying around. I like the hanger style support you have there. When I get my ar500 steel targets in I'll have to weld a hanger on the back of them or something.

    Howa HCR 6.5 CM

Just cut holes in the steel and then ran a bolt through the chain and plate. Pretty easy. The stand itself is just made with 5 pieces of 48" long black iron pipe from home depot. Then using pipe fittings to put it together. Easy, strong, and around 100 bucks.

    Howa HCR 6.5 CM

Well of course the weather isn't cooperating with me. Too muddy to get out to my shooting spot. So cut out a couple of targets with some scrap steel. Going to order some real targets next pay period.

    Howa HCR 6.5 CM

The only complaint of the rifle so far is the magazine. It's super hard to get the 10th round in the magazine. It may fix itself with more use, or I might be able to modify the mag itself. But it's really not the rifles fault. Probably just me being picky. Lol.

    Howa HCR 6.5 CM

One more question for those of you with the HCR. Will magpul magazines work in this rifle? If so, how do you like them? I'm wanting to get a couple more spare magazines for the matches. Or should I just buy another mdt magazine, like the one that came with the rifle?

    Howa HCR 6.5 CM

Just put a homemade target stand together. Going to cut a piece of steel tomorrow, and hopefully go shoot.

    Howa HCR 6.5 CM

Thanks for the tip. I'll look into those. I was actually about to order the pump pillow. Lol

    Howa HCR 6.5 CM

Can anyone recommend a good bag for the prs matches? That was one thing that really handicapped me in the first prs I attempted. Thanks

    .243 for PRS type comps

I would absolutely use your 243 in a prs. I did my first match last month. I used a 7 mag. Lol. I used it, because it was the cheapest rifle I had that was capable of 1000 yards. I learned a lot. I'm glad I didn't just run out and buy a rifle and scope before I experienced a match first. After...

    7 saum

I have very good luck with H4831sc and the 175 eldx. Very good es and sd numbers. Velocity is a little bit on the slow side, but the accuracy makes up for it.
