    School me on the Vudoo

Another viewpoint on Vudoo magazines: They must be loaded correctly. See the photo - notice the staggered appearance of the cartridge column. If the mags are loaded correctly - by depressing the follower button just enough to slide a cartridge under the feed lips - the column will usually...

    School me on the Vudoo

I haven't had a feeding malfunction in my 1st-gen Vudoo in literally years and thousands of rounds fired, including a dozen or so matches each season. Keep in mind that Vudoo's controlled-feed design ABSOLUTELY REQUIRES perfect fitment between action and stock/chassis. Whereas centerfire rifles...

Mountain Tactical Arca Rail & Harris Bipod Attachment

Additionally - I should have mentioned this earlier - the knurled tensioning knob (on Harris units that have cant) pretty much needs to be twisted with pliers to really adjust. That needs to be replaced with a KMW Pod-Loc, available through many vendors. A Harris can be a perfectly adequate...

Mountain Tactical Arca Rail & Harris Bipod Attachment

If you want to stay with a Harris bipod, your best (by far) solution is to purchase an ARCA adapter - and the top of that heap (if not the only thing on the heap) is the RRS set. RRS used to sell a one-piece Harris adapter (photo), but now you have to buy two separate pieces (link above) -...

    Coleman’s Creek

When I've shot matches at CC, ranges 5-8 were used, sometimes just 6-8 (relatively close proximity). A few observations: Expect at least a couple of stages to be run at each range. Plan to drive between ranges. If you normally have a lot of crap like I do, try to optimize loading/unloading to...

Is this normal for a custom action?

All my bolt rifles (Defiance, Terminus, Vudoo, Rim-X, CZ, now-departed Stiller) will bind if force is applied way off-axis to the bolt. But, in dozens and dozens of matches, I have never had an issue with binding - I don't think about it; maybe muscle memory has just evolved to where I naturally...

Talk me out of an Athlon Cronus 4.5-29

O gawd no, PLEASE do yourself a HUGE favor and forget this old-school bullshit. You're building a modern precision bolt-action "system," not a 1950s hunting rifle with a 4x one-inch-tube Weaver stuck on it. If anything, you want rings (or a one-piece mount, if you must) HIGHER than you "need."...

    SK S+ deviation / Rimfire

Those velocity numbers are very low, ES/SD very high. Did the ammunition get cooled to extremely low temps - like teens into 20s F.? SK Std+ as a label should have a velocity somewhere around 1070fps - UNLESS the ammo is extremely cold and/or it's fired from a long, "slow" barrel (I had a 26"...

Talk me out of an Athlon Cronus 4.5-29

OP, a few comments. CALL - on the ancient device known as a telephone - any of the Snipers Hide supporting vendors. You've been steered to Doug at CameraLandNY. CALL him and tell him you learned about him on SH. Similarly, CS Tactical and others carry Vortex. Call and see what they can offer...

    Shout Out to AMP

I ordered my AMP annealer in late 2019. It was DOA. Sent email. Response in fifteen minutes, then a phone call from Alex to troubleshoot. Yep, dead. Had a new one two days later, with a shipping label to return the original. Doesn't get any better.

    22lr barrel

Cleaning - I use Vudoo's method: Clean the chamber thoroughly, barely touch the bore so that lube "seasoning" remains. Leaving "seasoning" in barrel seems beneficial even when changing from one lube type to another, such as Lapua's super-greasy stuff to Eley's stiffer beeswax or paraffin.

First precision 22 - go big or go home?

SSSooooo. Next question is, watchagonnadu wrt an optic for the new rifle??? :ROFLMAO: Whole 'nother cannawurms.

    What am I doing wrong?

Apologies if my tone came across as snobbish... While the 75gr Hornady Frontier is vastly better than ubiquitous 55/62gr ball, it's just not true match grade. But, with your low-powered optic, your rifle is very likely unable to take advantage of top-tier ammo at distance even if the rifle is...

First precision 22 - go big or go home?

Here's a "thing:" no matter what you start with, if you keep shooting you'll get an irresistible itch to buy/build something else. That's why I started rimfire competition with a CZ-455 "Tacticool," put it in a chassis, sold it after upgrading to a Vudoo. Then got a wild hair about building a...

    What am I doing wrong?

Bottom line is, imo you've run into the practical limit of your platform and ammo - notably the optic, followed by the ammo - and that's assuming a high-quality AR platform tuned to the ammo. Optic is max 10x? At 500 yards? Pfft. Be very happy with 7-8" groups, if you can do it consistently...

First precision 22 - go big or go home?

A few thoughts. I enjoy centerfire PRS-style matches, but I've come to enjoy .22 matches even more. First, what @obx22 said about positional practice is very true. I've seen so many guys sit at a bench trying to hit tiny targets or make tiny groups, then they enter a competition, the timer goes...

Round count to determine the best lot# ?

My new lot of Long Range is superb. I got out today to test my new half-case of Lapua Long Range. It was a cold (40s F.), pretty raw day with 2-5mph wind from 2 o'clock; I got initial 50-yard and 100-yard confirmation done and then moved to the 550 range where I shot 200, 300, and 400 yard...

    Decisions, decisions

Broadly speaking, the optical difference between a "good" $750-1000 scope and $2500ish scopes will be most pronounced in poor lighting conditions. Example: One shooting lane at a popular NC match venue has a little berm up next to a tree line, maybe 800 yards across an open field. Steel plate...

Round count to determine the best lot# ?

When I had my Vudoo tested at Lapua/Capstone's Arizona center in 2020, 50-yard results of ten-round 50-yard groups of each tested lot (minimum of eight lots) were compared. Then 20 additional rounds of the best lots were fired and results compared. So call it 10 shots to eliminate and 30 shots...

Rifle Competition Events Guardian Cameo in August?

I've shot Guardians at two different ranges here in NC and have competed at another where a Guardian will be held this year. One was easily traversible with a cart, one you HAD to drive, and this year's event wil not be friendly to old or young trying to walk (unless they run the stages very...
