    Sidearms & Scatterguns Hi-Cap .45 anything wrong with a P14-1911?

Point well taken... but part of the reason for the switch to polymer frames is that the frame is not taking up so much room so that you can get a double stack in there. That said, I have an M&P45, an HK 45c, and a 1911 and the 1911 is still the most comfortable. My M&P is getting a grip...

Sidearms & Scatterguns 1911 sights for thoose that have fake lens?

You just need to be able to focus on the front sight, which is several inches beyond your extended arm, so any sight will work. For precision, a small front sight and relatively thin rear notch works. For speed, a wide rear notch is helpful and some think the u shaped notch helps. Lots of...

SMACK the SMILEY FALL 2013 - RESULTS POSTED

I killed it on the RF. I am pretty sure I got a wipeout along with one of the best groups I have ever shot. I am slowly improving on the CF. I shot two targets that are north of 200. Not winners, but I have now achieved over 200 in the centerfire in 3 consecutive matches, which is awesome for...

Sidearms & Scatterguns 1911 finish suggestions

I would go ionbond, which is very tough. It only comes in black (to my knowledge). The SS makes it corrosion resistant. The ionbond will make it scratch resistant. That is a pretty solid combo. If you like the metallic look, bead blasting will make it less shiny. Another option would be...

    Sidearms & Scatterguns 1911 safety?

1911 is perfect for lefties. One of the biggest design flaws of the 1911 is that the mag release is on the left hand side. It is so much easier to manipulate the release with your trigger finger or middle finger than having to loosen your grip to depress the button with your thumb. Adding an...

    Suppressors aac tirant 45

I ordered a Ti-rant 45 about 7 months ago. Still waiting. I haven't heard of the octane, but at the time, the Ti-rant and Osprey were the quietest on the market. Both now include interchangeable pistons, allowing you to use on a variety of pistols with different thread pitches. Advantages...

Sidearms & Scatterguns ND vs AD vs Something else?

I have a question about an incident that happened recently to me. I was at the range and had a round "nose up." I dropped the magazine, pulled the slide back and let it drop forward. I pulled the slide back again... no round was extracted, so I figured the round came out with the mag. I pointed...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Recommend a good place to refinish a 1911...

What do you want to refinish it in? That makes a difference. Ionbond? Birdsong? NP3? Cerakote? Traditional blue? Different answers might imply different smiths.

Sidearms & Scatterguns Les Baer 1911 with 1.5 guarantee Problem

I would follow their advice. The reason they asked you to put 500 more rounds through it is to finish break in and identify any issues so that you don't send it in, get it refinished, then identify an additional issue once the gun comes back from a refin. I had about 4 or 5 malfunctions in the...

    Terrapin on FLAT ground questions

It will outrange your Zeiss and Swaro and work better on smaller targets as the beam divergence is smaller than those two. As mentioned above, the main issue will be holding the Terrapin still enough on a smaller target at longer range to get a consistent reading. A tripod would do the trick...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Why open carry?

Zimmerman paid about $250K and they pulled out all the stops. I don't know where the $1MM figure comes from.

Sidearms & Scatterguns glock or smith?

You have to compare apples to apples. A 357 loaded hot will have more energy than a 40 loaded hot. Factory 357 has more energy than factory 40. 357 is a lighter, magnum round. It is designed for higher velocities, and velocity has a greater impact on energy than mass.

Sidearms & Scatterguns glock or smith?

If you are replacing the pistol and don't own another, I would get the Glock. Otherwise, I would go with the Smith. What is it, a 19-4? The Model 19 got phased out for the 66. You want the 19-4 or earlier.

Sidearms & Scatterguns 1911 - what would you spend $1000 - 2000 on if you had the cash

If you buy from Crazy John, you shouldbe able to get a Les Baer for under $2k with the works. I bought one with 1.5" guarantee, hard chrome finish, and night sights for $1, 750 new a couple of years ago. I know they are more expensive now, but they can still be had for under $2k. I would also...

New US Army Camouflage Selection Leaked

I would like to see the test data. the US4CES people made a pretty good case for their pattern... but they were also the only ones lobbying the general public. They made an interesting argument for including black, which I had always thought didn't make sense (as black doesn't occur naturally)...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Help with M&P 45 and hot loads

I called Apex. I have adjusted all of the pretravel out of the trigger. He thinks that because of that fact, the extra recoil of the heavy loads are causing me to let off before the trigger has a chance to reset. I will try that and let y'all know. He said (based on date of manufacture) he is...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Help with M&P 45 and hot loads

I have run into some problems and I was hoping the pistoleers here could help me out. I have an M&P45 that has run pretty flawless (one FTE in 1,500 rounds) using light to moderate loads (200 gr lswc + 5.1 gr W231/HP38) as well as 230 gr hardball factory loads (which is moderate to heavy). I...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Dan Wesson Specialist vs Springfield TRP Operator

The M&P 9mm has accuracy problems due to the fast unlocking. The barrel has to be just the right dimensions or accuracy is all over the board. I have read that this is because the M&P was originally designed for .40. The 9mm was not as well conceived. The 45 theoretically does not have the same...
