Rifle Scopes Is it necessary/beneficial to bed scope bases?

Re: Is it necessary/beneficial to bed scope bases? I've never bedded a base until this past week. I had a 20 MOA base that was essentially negated by the tolerances on the action. Does my rifle shoot any better now that the base is bedded? No. However, I got back 15 MOA of elevation out...

Rifle Scopes Field Scope vs Swaro vs Zeiss vs Leica

Re: Field Scope vs Swaro vs Zeiss vs Leica I haven't had the pleasure of looking through the 3 Euro's that you mention, however I do own a Fieldscope ED III which I am very happy with. At 25x the images are very bright and crisp. At 45x, the images do lose a little brightness from 25x but...

    Rifle Scopes Can't understand it...

Re: Can't understand it... After I tightened the two front screws, I was able to press down on the rear of the base and see movement. I also confirmed with a bore sighter by observing where the cross hairs landed on the grid when all screws were torqued, and then the delta when only the...

Anyone have a 300 RUM pet load???

Re: Anyone have a 300 RUM pet load??? I hate muzzle brakes for hunting. I would rather not have to wear hearing protection while in the woods. A removable one would work, but I really don't shoot this thing enough outside of the woods to justify it.

    Rifle Scopes Can't understand it...

Re: Can't understand it... Remington does not manufacture their actions to the same tight tolerances that the high end base manufacturers do (e.g. Seekins, Badger, etc.). If they did, you would be paying a lot more. I think if you took the route of trying to get Rem to fix/replace it, you...

Anyone have a 300 RUM pet load???

Re: Anyone have a 300 RUM pet load??? I've got a bone stock Rem LSS that I use for hunting. I load 180gr Sierra Gamekings over 94.5gr of RL-25. Pretty much wrecks shit and shoots consistent 3/4" groups at 100yds. It's meant for hunting, so I haven't really tried to check groups past 200...

Rifle Scopes Why does 20 MOA base not give 20 MOA Elevation?

Re: Why does 20 MOA base not give 20 MOA deflectio I just went through this issue and this might help you: Elevation Discrepancy Just bedded my bases on a couple rifles last night, which should solve the problem I saw.

    Rifle Scopes Can't understand it...

Re: Can't understand it... Bingo! Thanks Trigger! I followed the test that Glenn mentioned to you and it shows that I've got about 12-15 MOA of flex in my base. I guess that is why people buy custom actions. Now I just need to research how to bed a scope base. I've done actions before...

    Rifle Scopes Can't understand it...

Hopefully I can explain this well enough, but it's really confusing me. I have a Win 70 SA with a 20 MOA Seekins base on it. It mostly wears a Mark 4 4.5-14 scope, but today I swapped it with a higher powered Nikon 1" scope that has ~45 MOA of travel. I wasn't even sure if I could get it...

Re: Pics of Seekins and S&B 3-12X50 Can't go wrong with either, but I personally prefer the Seekins design.

Old Lyman Spar-T, ok for seating?

Re: Old Lyman Spar-T, ok for seating? Thanks guys. I'll give it a shot and see what happens. Just wanted a couple opinions before I went off and wasted a bunch of time and ammo.

Old Lyman Spar-T, ok for seating?

Gents, do any of you have any experience with the old Lyman Spar-T presses? I have one that's been stored for many years but I've been thinking about dusting it off strictly for bullet seating. I'm just not sure what kind of runout it will give me. I still plan to use my RockChucker for...

Rifle Scopes Burris XTR ring height question

Gents, I need some feedback before I buy. I have a Rem 700 with varmint contour. Will the low Burris XTR rings give me enough clearance between scope and barrel using a 20 MOA rail? Or do I need to use mediums? The scope is a Nikon Monarch 6.5-20x44.

    7mm-08 loads...

Re: 7mm-08 loads... 162 Amax with H4350. Good combo in several different rifles that I know of. 162 also does well as a hunting round, at least on the whitetail that I've shot with it.

    243 AI 75gr V-Max load data

Re: 243 AI 75gr V-Max load data I thought the same thing with Varget, but figured I would give it a try. Ended pretty well... I don't think it would be the ideal for the heavies (105 - 115 bullets). I never did get a chance to try H4350, but I think it would shine with the heavier bullets...
