About to "pull the trigger" on a 700p.308+Mark4

Re: About to "pull the trigger" on a 700p.308+Mark4 That would be a good rig. The 700p is a solid rifle, but here are some other ideas of what you could do for the money. Perhaps a new Rem 5r with a 10x Super Sniper scope. That is about $1300 and it gives you mil-dots in your scope. I think...

Rifle Scopes 20" Barrel, FGM168bthp Suggestions pls

Re: 20" Barrel, FGM168bthp Suggestions pls This all sounds very complicated...Shooting a rifle at 500 is a very simple process. As a surveyor, you have a tendency to deeply analyze things. That is a good ability, but what I am saying is that actually shooting your rifle is going to be a lot...

    Mini 30 reconstruction

Re: Mini 30 reconstruction Well...contrary to some of the opinons expressed here, I wouldn't plan to do anything major to your rifle. Any money spent on it would probably be better spent on something else...like an AR possibly, or a Marlin bolt action, but don't do anything to it until you...

Rifle Scopes Why you HAVE to bed mounting bases on Rem 700's!

Re: Why you HAVE to bed mounting bases on Rem 700's! That is a pretty healthy gap so you might consider some shims in addition to bedding compound. The gap might give you a few more MOA. TC

    New 5r 700 vtr

Re: New 5r 700 vtr If you want a nice 5r barrel, get one from a custom maker rather than Remy's production version. 5r is just an angle specification on the rifling. It is not inherently accurate by itself, it is only accurate if the barrel itself is well made. There are many more examples of...

    Expander ball ?

Re: Expander ball ? Here's the deal... In addition to polishing the expander ball, remove the expander stem assembly when you size the case. Then re-install the expander loose or just barely snug with an o-ring under the adjustment nut, lube inside the neck with a Q-tip and expand the neck...

    Suggestions with first progressive

Re: Suggestions with first progressive How many rounds a week will you be firing in practice? A progressive can crank out rounds once they are set up and tuned up, but there is a learning curve too, and that all takes a lot of time and money, so unless you are shooting over 2k rounds a week...

Rifle Scopes Mounting NF and scope mount on M1a

Re: Mounting NF and scope mount on M1a Aluminum mounts are sometimes inconsistent on the M1-A, as recoil tends to batter them and they lose zero, but the method you describe should help get it lined up. Put the rifle in a vise of some sort and line up the rifle sights on a target down range...

    Annealing troubles?

Re: Annealing troubles? I polish the inside of the necks with fine steel wool on a bore brush with a drill whether I anneal or not. With consistently clean brass, it is always easier to seat after annealing. Annealing is a meticulous process. Don't over anneal your brass. TC
