    Maggie’s The Retired Guy Thread

I'm 7 months into retirement after 42 years in the construction industry. Over the past few months, I've noticed guys commenting on upcoming retirements, where to retire, etc. and thought perhaps a "Retired Guy Thread" may be interesting. Hobbies, activities, exercise, insurance, vacation...

    Maggie’s Motivational Pic Thread v2.0 - - New Rules - See Post #1

Yesterday was a great day in retirement. A cloudy, damp, dreary 37 degree day here in WI. No reason to stay inside, so I decided to go squirrel hunting. It was quiet, almost surreal, in the woods. The squirrels were not very active, so I snuck around and sat around for about 4-1/2 hours to...

    Maggie’s Motivational Pic Thread v2.0 - - New Rules - See Post #1

I always get a chuckle out of photos posing with a kill, where the hunter is decked out head to toe in camo and the guides are wearing carhart and whatever else they had laying around.

    Any original members here?

That sounds like "BigStick" over on 24hr campfire.... My profile says I joined in 2008, but I think that was a reset date during a web programming change if I remember correctly. I think it was '02ish for me.

Excessive amount of 5.56 not passing the checker

If that reamer has zero free-bore, then it should be good to go.

Excessive amount of 5.56 not passing the checker

OP, as Spife said, measure. Take a round that has not been chambered. Measure oal and measure base to shoulder if you have the tools for that. Then chamber the round and re-measure those two dimensions. What changed (you said they chamber the second time you try them)? As far as needing a...

Excessive amount of 5.56 not passing the checker

I've never used a checker, but I believe they only check OAL, right? I assume you are reloading. If so, the bullet profile between bullets (not each bullet in a lot, but different bullets such as A-Max vs Berger) vary, such that the ogive of the bullet you are using is further toward the point...

Looking for investors. Designing new camouflage that has a proven track record. The first release will be camouflage patterned after twist ties (like on a loaf of bread). Everytime I remove one I cannot find it. Following that release will be camouflage patterned after 10mm sockets. I see...

    Vacation vs. Staycation

I retired 7 months ago from a mental, but not physical, job. I wore myself out mentally during the week with work and travel, and then wore myself out physically on the weekends keeping up around home. Getting away for a few days a couple times a year was an attempt at a reset for me, usually...

    Pappy Boyington

When I was in high school, my dad told me one of my high school shop teachers was a fighter pilot in the Pacific in WWII. I was blown away as Ray was a very quiet, soft spoken man. I later found out he was in the wrestling Hall of Fame in two states. One day I asked Ray if he ever met Pappy...

    K-Bars Who needs a Ka-Bar

We'll say the black 1258 short is the freebie. The handle circumference on it is quite a bit less than I envisioned, but still comfortable as I don't have overly large hands. I do kind of like the plastic sheath with it, as the guard rides over ramps and drops into a slot, effectively locking...

    Mental Health/ Resetting

I'm glad to hear you and others are able to "reset" from work with their hobbies. My job, and my personal desire not to fail the company, led to the loss of hobbies and dwindled friendships over 42 years of work. It wasn't about putting the job first so much, but rather the desire not to fail...
