    Never used the metal ones, but I’ve been using Gitzos for a while. Rock solid and like you said a lot less than others. I bought my latest one off of a photography forum.

    I've had several PVA TL3 prefits and they all hammer. Just got done working a load up on a 25 Creed with 135 Bergers and it's going to be another hammer. All mine have been Rock button barrels.

    I'm the same height and went with a Gitzo. My buddy just got the 2 section tripod from 2 vets and it's tall enough and probably what I'd get if I didn't already have the Gitzo.

    I like and use M10s but any of the quality rings will be fine. I've never had an issue with NF, Seekins, or Hawkins.
