is the 300 Win Mag an obsolete target caliber?

Hunting and plinking steel targets, especially at long range are two very different things. I would much rather have a good .300 Win Mag in my hands if an Elk presented itself at 500 yards. Yes I know tons of elk were killed with lesser cartridges. As for the 6.5 Creedmoor I'd rather use this...

    Finally!!! 7sprc!

Is not a 1.4 inch group at 1,000 yards like bench rest winning groups for that distance. Like close to world record sized groups, if I'm not mistaken. Speed also is suspect for a case with the capacity of slightly larger the a .30-06. Good Luck Jerry

    F T/R Competition Which cartridge?

If you're not shooting F T/R (.223 R - .308 W) you'll need to spend $800-$1,000 on a rest to be competitive. Not counting the rifle/scope you choose. Although people do shoot F T/R with high end equipment also. Good Luck Jerry

    Book Landed,

Got mine copy last week, I read the chapters about Frank, his life and training first. Very well done. Going back and reading the rest now, equally well done. I met Frank in 2002 at the first ASC. I believe it was the third ASC match where he kicked everyone butt with the cold bore shooting...

    ARs banned in Canada

If you look into they previous attempt at the Gun Registry Possession and Acquisition licensing laws that were in effect for about 10-15 years, there was massive non-compliance by the Canadian people.

    6.5cm or 7mm

If elk is on the menu get a 7mm Rem Magnum with a good stock. Hitting an animal is one thing, having an adequate blood trail and being able to follow-up and recover the animal, not all calibers are treated equal... Good Luck Jerry

    Lr primers and lower SD's

What, cartridge, powder, temperature, rifle... All will pay a part in the answer. I shot a 7mm RM with AA3100 with BR2s with good results out to 1,200 yards. I got hang fires with a 6.5 RM using R19 while trying BR2s and Standard 200s. This occurred even though I was over 10 grains more...

    Twist Rates for 7mm RM

For 160's the Remington standard of 1-9.25 is fine. I was very successfully with 168 & 175 gr SMK from a 1-9.25 twist. Heavier bullets and long VLD's are available for the 7mm are where faster twists are needed.

    M-40a1/ M-70 with AN/PVS1

In an earlier version of 'Cartridges of the World' by Frank Barnes he indicated that a shorted (like 1.5 inches long) .458 WM was developed and sent to VN for evaluation as a Suppressed rifle, using a heavy FMJ bullet. I understand the term 'Hush Puppy' came from the need of shooting dogs in...

    Gewehr 98 action

For a fast .22 CF on a Mauser 98, that a close look at the .220 Swift as mentioned earlier. Just use a fast twist barrel. Good Luck Jerry

    Gewehr 98 action

Scope rails are made for the 98 Mauser by Medesha http://www.medeshafirearms.com/scope_mount_rails.htm Model 98's had to have material removed from the feed ramp area for cartridges longer than 8x57. Some gunsmiths would chamber them for long cartridges like .300 H&H. IMHO this is not a safe...
