Range Report How far can a .30 ricochet travel? HELP

Yeah... Sadly sounds plausible. Angled steel plate set part way up that hill. Even with this scenario it does seem like the bullet would lose a ton of energy after the skip off the steel but if it had just enough to clear the ridge, it would go quite a ways. --- aim small miss small ---

Rifle Scopes Help me validate my perception of gravitational physics

Wow what a topic. Scope mounting and relativistic physics all in one. Good stuff. On the scope leveling, agree with lowlight. If the scopes bubble level is trued to its crosshairs then it should be swappable to other guns. The angle that matters between the barrel and scope is kind of set by the...

    Precision Rifle Reloading Press Choice

Maybe I'm weird but I've never once thought, "gosh this whole unscrewing and rescrewing dies thing is just eating into my day, I really need some kind of ultra quick die swapper outer thingy..." Precision rifle reloading, RCBS RC press and Redding competition dies (with regular good olde...

OCW node and harmonic proof, comments please!

Ahh the ocw testing. Many hours I've pondered over results. The data recording gets more and more detailed and the results get more and more obscure.... But it sure is fun. I like the fact that you tested at 400 yards. Much easier to interpret. I'm stuck at 90 yards right now.... Who makes an...

    Bullets and brass basic questions

For handgun (9mm and 10mm) I've successfully used Berry's plated bullets. They were the cheapest several years ago. I think they ran $75 for 1000 bullets but that was a while back. Surprisingly they are just as accurate if not more when compared to Winchester white box. For 308 I've used...

Newbie to reloading. Tumbling brass vs ultrasound cleaning

Can't speak for SS or ultrasonic but between corncob and walnut in a vibratory machine, walnut works much better. I always add some polishing goo to it also just for the shiny new look it gives. 3 hours in walnut is my standard. --- aim small miss small ---

    260 OCW 130 Berger VLD h4350

Ha! For a second there I thought you stole one of my graphs! Apparently we use excel the same way when doing OCW... At first glance it looks like a node in the two highest gr loads: 45.1 and 45.4. Did you chrony? I like to compare velocities with the group centers. Also I chart group sizes and...

Help Reading Nodes - 7mm Rem Mag

My brother had a 7mag that we reloaded for and never got anywhere near published velocities until we upped the powder quite a bit. He even had the barrel scoped to see how bad the throat erosion was (used gun). It was eroded bad and after a barrel replacement it shot more similar to published...

Help Reading Nodes - 7mm Rem Mag

That is interesting. Could be that you're actually between nodes. A velocity plot would be interesting to see. Then a retest. I've taken immense amount of data for about 7 different OCW tests now over the past few years for my 6mmAI. The most consistent effect that I see is the level off in...

Help Reading Nodes - 7mm Rem Mag

Node testing can be tricky. The real key is a stable setup. What sort of bags were you using and was it bench or prone, if bench was it concrete or wood? As far as looking for the node after shooting. I've found the only unbiased way to do it is to plot all the holes on a grid in excel. I note...

6mm AI Recipes for Long Range

Let's hear your recipes for long ranging with 6mm AI! I shoot a rem700, 26" pacnor stainless barrel, nightforce 5.5-22x56. My favorite loads are: 1000 yard load: 115gr DTAC, 50.2gr H1000, Norma brass turned to 0.013", CCI 200 primers, seated to jump 0.010". Chrony's at 3080. Short range (or...

    Does this sound right?

Yep, I also make a dummy round with full neck tension with each fav bullet that touches the lands once I've done the measurements and check it in the chamber. That way I always have a reference length for that bullet in that gun. Saves a lot of time, as long as measurements are rechecked...

    Does this sound right?

I developed my own simple tool. Take a dremel and cut lengthwise down the neck and into the shoulder of a piece of brass. Polish off all the burrs. Adjust the tension on the bullet by the width and/or number of cuts. Usually one slice is enough. The chamber that brass with your bullet of choice...

Range Report not getting correct trajectory data...

The only thing that would explain this to me is if the zero at 100 yards never really happened. Shooter, and any other ballistics program these days, is extremely accurate. They model the bullet flight within inches even out beyond 1000 yards. But they are garbage in/garbage out. It's easy to...

Very impressive! I've only worked with a 6 AI at 1k. That's hard enough! Double that distance is pentuple (is that a word?) the difficulty!

Ladder test for .338 Lapua, need help.

I've never been able to get repeatable results at 300. 4-500 was more clear to interpret but that was with 6mmAI so I can see how .308 might show results at 300. There has to be enough drop to start showing statistical variences.
