Why is a .308 bruising my shoulder???

Thanks, I appreciate all the replies so far. To answer some questions and add some info, I'm 38, fairly big and muscular (I lift 50lbs all the time and 100lbs about once a week - not iron weights, but sacks of animal feed, tractor implements and parts, and my kids), so I don't think strength is...

Why is a .308 bruising my shoulder???

OK, this is the STUPID questions forum, I am using the option to post a stupid question. I have a couple of semi precision bolt action .308s. Currently shooting a Remington 700 with a 20" heavy barrel, and a Sig SSG-3000 with the factory 24" heavy barrel. The 700 weighs about 10lbs with...

NEW from XLR Industries **ELEMENT CHASSIS**

I'm adding my vote for this chassis for the Howa 1500 short action. If you offer that I'll buy one the same day, and probably buy another before too long. I know the Evolution is available now for the Howa, but I don't want my 50mm objective scope as high as that forces it to be.

    Should I buy a rifle ?

If any of your .223 rifles are capable of precision I would use them a bunch first. Stretch them out to 500-600 yards and see if you enjoy it. Maybe get a quality scope (even a SWFA SS fixed power 12x). If you're having a blast, I'd look into something in the 6.5mm family (6.5CM or .260 Rem...

    Base .308 Rifles

Lots of stock options for the Hog Hunter, and it includes iron sights. Good combination. Ruger American is probably good too. I'd say far, far, far away from the Remington 783 junk. I'd find a used or fall hunting special 700 long before I'd go with the junkified 78x models.

Best hands down long range rifle in .308

I'm sure it still has the kinetic to get the job done, if ya know what I mean. /wink wink OP, a couple things. First, welcome to SH. Second, like others have said, searches will show endless debates on your question. Third, you have to walk before you can run, and between the difficulty of...

Rifle Scopes New Steiner T5Xi Tactical Rifle Scopes

You have to be able to work while sitting? And carry as much as 10lbs? They want a @#$# Superman? ;-) I imagine they'll be getting numerous applications from SH members today. Thanks for posting this Scott.

Rifle Scopes New Steiner T5Xi Tactical Rifle Scopes

I'm sure it's a real scope. I wouldn't be surprised if Steiner takes the huge positive response as a cue to price it higher than suggested here though. As for the rep, I imagine it's one guy and he's on vacation? But they really should have more than one person covering the official account...

    Rifle Scopes vortex tactical rings

Personally I would buy Warne rings for rimfire or low budget use. Simple, high quality, made in the USA. I've had the Chinese rings and mounts (including Burris brand) and they just feel cheap. Warne are basic but don't feel cheap. They go on sale at MidwayUSA every 2-3 months for $30-35 or so.

Rifle Scopes 3-12 vs. 3-15 power.

That Bushnell is an excellent scope and IMHO one of the best scopes under $1k. Of course the SS gets good reviews too (I have two of those Bushnells, none of that model SS). In terms of optical quality and reticle I think you'll be very happy with the Bushnell, but I suspect you will also want...

    Your take on this post?

That's why I always carry 40mm Bofors. It's the only way to be sure.

    Sig SSG3000 scope mount

Recently got one of those with the 24" barrel. I love it, and I think the machined in rail is one of the best features. So.... why do you want 20 moa in your mount? I looked up that scope and it shows 100 moa or 27.8 mils of elevation. Assuming you can use half of that when mounted on a 0...

Buds guns??? Any one buy from them?

Bought two rifles, no hassles at all. Usually the best price I can find, especially since the FFLs who register with Buds usually charge a modest flat fee for the transfer.

Rifle Scopes Weaver 34mm 6-30x56 Tactical Scope

The "Poseur Supreme" line didn't score as well with focus groups. "Not your daddy's benchrest scope" was too long and smelled faintly of Oldsmobile and nursing homes. So finally they tried "Really cool precision scope with features that would be useful if you were doing military-style things...

Rifle Scopes Steiner MX5i 5-25x56 MSR and Burris Customer Service - Disappointing

Damage control to aisle SO, stat! Seriously, it's one thing if Steiner says "we looked at that scope three times and it's in spec, the buyer has unrealistic expectations or user error" but to not even reply to his contacts after this whole thing, not a good sign. I have found this with...

Rifle Scopes Vortex quality control issues?

As a general rule yes, but I've had four PST's including the model OP is trying to get, and all of them did very well on illumination - very little bleed and what there was was uniform. What OP describes is more what I'm used to seeing with lower cost illuminated Weavers (despite being LOW...

The deadliest sniper rifle in history has been a Mosin-Nagant with iron sights. If you know what I mean.

Rifle Scopes Which scope have you found to track closest to true?

You should not have a detectable tracking issue with any scope over $1000, and for that matter it's not really excusable for a scope over $300 or so. Your experience is why Leupold is having to reestablish themselves in the high end market. Stock answers.... well, Nightforce certainly. Any...

    DSA Fal vs M1a

What do you want to do with it? 1) Play Rhodesian commando with unlimited quantities of surplus ---> FAL by far 2) Play 1980 awesome shooter on sling and jacket high power line ---> M1A, enjoy redoing the glass bedding every season 3) Mount a scope and hit small things that are far away --->...
