Re: Speeding up my .308
I should also mention that I am doing everything from hunting antelope at 5000' in 80 degree weather to hunting elk at over 10000 and at times below zero temp.

I am currently loading my .308 with 175grain Berger VLD's and 46.5 gr Varget. I am getting great groups but I am hoping to gain some velocity by switching powder. Any recommendations? How much of a difference will it make?
Re: looking to head to Wyoming this year
Casper is certainly the place for Antelope. I have hunted Shirley Basin a few times and there are antelope all over. I do not know much about deer in that area. The meetetse area is also a great place for an antelope/mule deer combo. There is a lot of...
Re: Recommended Elk Guide
I used to guide for an outfitter up here in NW Wyoming named Jake Clark. He runs Wyoming Wilderness Outfitters. I highly recommend him if you are up for riding a horse and a fair ammount of hiking. I still hunt for myself the same area he works and there are a lot...

Re: Berger VLD hunting performance?
Here is the entry hole of a mule deer buck I shot with a 175 grain Berger VLD out of my .308. The shot was taken at 500 yds and the heart was destroyed. There was no exit hole but heck, with an entry like this who needs one...
Re: 950 yd bull elk kill
The other think to think about is that this is the same thing bow hunters have to thiink about also. You have to time your show when they are eating, lying down, or turning away to decrease the risk of them moving while the bullet or arrow is in flight.

Re: Remighton 700 Police
I have the 1:12 twist rate. When I built my load, I tested some 150's and 168's both printed greata groups on paper at 100 yds but for long range, I havent been able to beet the 175's
Re: Remighton 700 Police
I shoot a Remington 700 PSS as well. Listen to the guys saying use a 175 grain bullets. The faster twist rate favors them.I shoot 175 grain Berger vld's with 46 grains of varget but start low and watch for pressure signs. This load remains .5moa out to 1000 in my...
Re: Vortex pst 6-24x 50mm Moa reticle
I have shot the Viper 4-16 for over a year now and could not be more happy. It always tracks true, returns to zero and is clear to look through. Highly recommended for the money. Vortex also has awesome customer service.
Re: Berger VLD hunting performance?
I have shot Berger VLD's for two years in the field and will never shoot anything else. I killed an elk with them at 950 yds this year and a deer at 500 yds. The exit hole in the deer was about the size of my fist! Major destruction, awesome long range...
