New Contest Starting Now! This Target Haunts Me
Tell us about the one that got away, the flier that ruined your group, the zero that drifted, the shot you still see when you close your eyes. Winner will receive a free scope!
Sounds like you just wrote a while paragraph to say this thread isnt relevant to your interests. Thanks for letting us know. The OP and others in this thread are having a discussion they are interested in.
I see more mirage at higher mag, but I also see more target. I feel I can more accurately determine the center of a dancing target at higher mag than lower. In either case, the target is still moving with mirage, just because it is smaller and we dont see it moving as much doesnt seem like a...
Took the rifle out again today and scope was fine, no more residual oil or whatever that was.
The initial out of the box appearance aside, now that its cleaned up I really like this scope. Glass is pretty awesome and with 35x top end mag you get really fine detail, focus is sharp. I was...
I think you’ll be fine. 175smk are known for being a forgiving bullet. Its all I shoot in the 308. I tried the 155 scenar but never got them to shoot as well as the 175s so gave up on them. I dont think transsonic is a big deal with the 175s.
I have zeroed at 100 already. With a 6.5cm I have enough remaining elevation to get to 1500, so no big deal. Im just curious where the other mils went.
Man I really dont want to send it back if I dont need to. Was hoping someone would chime in and say they have seen it before, its just...
Ok bought a brand new scope direct from Leupold.
Mk5HD 7-35x56 MIL TMR sku 176124
Was shrink wrapped, all original packaging everything unopened. When I opened it on receipt few days ago, looked used to me. Some kind of oil around the outside of the front objective, maybe sealant? Has it lost...
If you are willing to change bullets, why not just change cartridges? I like shooting my 308 and its the easiest rifle i have reloaded for...but if my goal is 1000 yards in dense air, there are much better options.
I thought that the full BC the 195 is capable of required a 1 in 8, but my 8.5 stabilizes them fine. I have a 1/8.5 Bartlein and it shoots the 180s great.
See, this here is why people dont care about subsonic transition like they used to...guys like b2lee will need a forward controller by the time his rounds go subsonic with all these awesome new loadings and bullets?
There are some bullets than dont transition to subsonic well even though they are adequately spin stabilized. Likely has to do with the fact that the aerodynamic center of pressure on the bullet changes as the shockwave angle changes and then disappears entirely once it is subsonic. When the...
I havent considered that question much....but Id say it has to do with modeling. BC is how you tell a computer model the shape of your bullet so it can calculate drag.
There are two common models for drag, and one of them is based on a relatively high drag flat base bullet, the G1 standard. The...
Yes, there have been several through the years that have been tweaked here and there, one of the more prominant ones is the Miller Stability formula. There has been a ton of stuff written on this and similar topics, and if you are interested in them it would be tough to do better than the books...
No the angular momentum is not lost at the same rate as forward velocity decreases.
Aerodynamic drag on the bullet has much more effect on the forward velocity, and decreases that velocity at a much higher rate than it does the rotational “velocity” or spin rate. Since the bullet is conserving...
In the market for a new scope and have had good luck with leupold in the past but when I looked at the latest offerings it seems few if any have illumination? What gives? Since I often hunt and target shoot with the same rifle I like having illumination. I have a reallly old mk4, old enough it...
