WW1 British Expeditionary Force Marksmanship Standards

And because the past always informs the present whether we like it or not, F M Crum's account of the 2nd Boer War is a must read. He worked hard in WWI to develop a modern and effective sniper doctrine and helped Baden-Powell establish the Boy Scouts, but in the Boer War he was wounded, taken...

WW1 British Expeditionary Force Marksmanship Standards

I strongly recommend Riding the Retreat by Richard Holmes (ISBN 0-224-03762-5) where he both details the different sides, looks at the psychology of the time and why it had arrived at that point and breaks down the individual skillset required. "The British infantryman of 1914 ... fired 250...

CZ 452 in an AI skin

Well I have been pondering for many years how to make my CZ a truer trainer for Tactical shooting and, thanks to COVID lock downs and sheer bull headedness the answer is surprisingly simple. Most of the project came from the spare parts cupboard; the flotsam and jetsam of too long getting...

Rifle Scopes New March FFP 5-42x56 High Master FML-TR1 preliminary review

Unfortunately, the TR1 is designed only for the 5 - 42 is my understanding. The 5-40s and the 24s require a different ratio. I believe this market need has been raised with the manufacturer. Also, be aware that Japan Post has stopped delivery of parcels to the US as a result of COVID.

Rifle Scopes I have an idea

BR guys have been using marked scopes and rings for years. That being said it is practice and repetition. Understanding the need to balance the forces left and right and not go hard from the start took me years. I know start at the screws closest to the ocular and get them right while...

Rifle Scopes Are Tier 1 scopes even worth it ?

As a shooter you are spoiled for choice in 2020. The advances in tech since the late 90s and even into the early 2010s has simply been astounding for scopes and we are richer for it. But as always it comes down to budget and defining what you want to do in your chosen discipline. Key things...

Rifle Scopes New March HM vs S&B

A March owner in Slovakia has posted some photos of his 42x in action on the March FB page. https://www.facebook.com/MarchScopes At 42 power there is shot of stand at 950m: And the same stand at 5 power: There is a bit more detailed commentary and a few more photos on the FB site. I...

    AICS Legacy chassis scarcity

I do not torque to spec. I use a long hex key, take it up to tight then tweak it. Seems to be good for one hole shots with the 6.5 Lapua.

Rifle Scopes New March HM vs S&B

Yes. The ocular is a different design to "normal" scopes and has a 26 degree Wide angle lens in it. I found this offers the user two things - a bigger down range picture of the target and surrounding areas and a much bigger lens closer to your eye. Throw the "eye box" term out the window...

Rifle Scopes New March HM vs S&B

Sadly not so. The break point direction of the reticle is the clearest I have every experienced with this glass and the increased FoV gives the brain/my brain more reference points to measure against. Strap into a sling and try it, then move to Hawkins and Layback. What I am saying is that I...

Rifle Scopes New March HM vs S&B

The wide FoV is an upshift to be sure. After playing with the March 42x for a while, I went back to my March 40x and thought I was looking through a toilet roll because of the FoV was suddenly a lot narrower. I'm really looking forward to this wider FoV feature being used on the 28x model...

Rifle Scopes New March HM vs S&B

I've been treating mine to casual disregard. Dust, rain, hail, snow, bushfires and baking heat (and that was only the past 5 months in Australia). You will need a lot of careless handling and a hammer.

Rifle Scopes New March Scopes for 2020

Really looking forward to seeing this one in the flesh. Suspect it will shake a few people's ideas of what a scope should be like.

    Steyr SSG-69?

What jbell said. Don't try to cut the issue stock as it was built for different times.

Rifle Scopes New March Scopes for 2020

Living in a windy place, I seem to spend my time bracketing the target, so this looks like a great option. Also love the balance in the Tree part of the reticle pattern.

Does anyone add bigger knobs to their rimfire bolts?

Look at the Tactical Operations connector for size - but shear forces are minimal on a rimfire. Also drilling and tapping is a nice to have but sometimes the bolt handle metal is not up to that level of sophistication.

Does anyone add bigger knobs to their rimfire bolts?

I used a Tactical Operations bolt knob on my CZ452 following a series of disappointing encounters with companies. Cut off the round bit, squared the face, drilled the hole and used Devcon to hold the stub (the alternative is silver solder). Big improvement in cycling with this action.

Rifle Scopes New March Scopes for 2020

Spent yesterday in more hot, dry and gusty wind conditions to trial the March 42x on the HW100. In summary, this is a powerful scope with a lot of potential but also, as I have said before, needs skill and understanding to use. Time spent setting up the scope properly is really important. The...

Great feedback Denys. Fantastic to hear it direct from the SHOT Show booth.

Rifle Scopes New March Scopes for 2020

I saw this explanation of the HM lens on another forum. It makes sense given what I experienced the other day in that dreadful heat and high wind. ---- The HM in the name stands for High Master. This scope uses the High Master lens system which is essentially Super-ED with the use of material...
