Best precision rifle available on a budget

It may be fair to say that if you want to hunt elk at 500+ distances you need a lot of target practice. Unless you are shooting consistently 1.5 moa or better 5-shot groups at 500 yards, I would say that hunting at such distance is a hazard.

130 gr Berger Hybrid OTM- seating depth

Berger says that 130 gr OTM Hybrids are easier to tune than VLDs. Do they actually shoot 0.5 moa or better between 0.40-.120 off the lands according to your experience?

Go buy savage, sell it for 100 dollars after a year or two and then buy something else.

Best precision rifle available on a budget

@DaVinci I believe you on your savage. It does not however mitigate the fact that cumulative experience of SH community leads to the conclusion that there have been issues with savage right out od the box- e.g. Elite Precision, see Scott's response to that. At the same time there have been very...

Best precision rifle available on a budget

It makes sense to borrow money from a parent/friend not to make a stupid mistake in the beginning. You said banging steel? Ok, what size of plate do you mean? My acceptable accuracy goal is 0.5moa or less/300m. What accuracy objective do you have? The one I have is difficult to reach with a...

Best precision rifle available on a budget

30.06 rifle? Not my thing. However, if you considered another caliber I would go with Howa/Tikka. Savage action and Accutrigger is pain in the ass. Howa or Tikka actions are way better- you can keep them and change the barrel, change the stock etc.

Precision (Benchrest) Components - what are your favorite parts

Volker, I would go with NC Rado (Herr Schwarze). He uses exclusively Bartlein/Krieger barrels, custom actions of his own, Birx&Andy Triggers and either custom or GRS Stock. All that for 3200-4000EUR. As for the caliber I would go with 6BR improved (BRA or XC).

    Building 6mm rifle

If I was running 105 Berger Hybrid, what would be the velocity difference between 6 BR and the Dasher?

    Building 6mm rifle

I'm on the other side of La Manche. I don't know a competent gunsmith who is doing the dasher, however I know some that have built a plenty of 6mm BR. Worst case scenario if I don't have enough time to reload I can always buy 6BR Lapua ammo off the shelf. This is not the case with Dasher.

    Building 6mm rifle

This is what I have been thinking. I don't need additional recoil from 6.5 CM. If I go for 800m, I would go with 6.5 CM and heavy Berger bullets. But for 300m and 600m I would like to have as little recoil as possible.

    Building 6mm rifle

I plan to build a one-purpose-rifle. This purpose is 300m and 600m f-class. My assumption is that I could get slightly better groups than out of 6.5 CM I currently shoot. I started looking at 6mm. My primary scenario is 6 mm BR. Ideally I would go with a Dasher, but in Europe it's dufficult to...

    Alternative Powders for 6.5 Creedmoor

I am using VV N555. I am new to reloading but it gives me 0.3 moa at 200m so far.

    Finding a node without Labradar

@Skookum pls kindly show me how to properly interpret the results in the ocw - I read the the theory and I thought it is uncomplicted method but when I started to watch youtube videos on ocw, I started to doubt it.

    Finding a node without Labradar

you are right and way experienced than I am. If you have similar patterns for each charge weights, how do you determine which one to pick as "the charge weight"?
