As for ammo selection and understanding different barrels may like different bullets, out of the three Howa's I have owned(all 308) and the ones my friends bought off of my recommendation, I have yet to see one that didn't shoot noticeably better with 175's over 168's...

    Not a bad start, bed it and do a trigger job and feed it 175's, it should be a .5 shooter. Make a sand sock for the rear and that will also help tighten up a bit as well. Nice project though, keep us updated.

    Bipod, good choice. Scope mount, do you have any reason not to go SPUHR. Cleaning gear, like said above. Sling, look at TAB Gear. Data books, reloading eequipment and components and ammo. Gas to the range and enjoy burning out your first barrel.

    If you were just going for the 800 Mark and be able to put a deer on the table occasionally get a 6.5 Grendel upper for your AR, the XTRII3-15x and some magazines of various capacity and call it good. That would be my choice but to each his own.

    Ditch the bolt 223. And probably even the Win Mag. With your uses and range the 308 seems the most well rounded. The 223 doesn't do anything the AR won't. And the Win Mag is over kill until you get out past 800.

    Any problems with hornady dies?

    No offense intended but I would switch dies. My first two sets of dies were Hornady 300WM and 308. Both caused excessive wear on the insides of the case neck and were just a pain overall. Made the switch Redding and never looked back.

    There was a thread a while back where a member used an AR barrel and barrel nut. Not sure if it was sbr or not but that is one route you could go instead of cutting your barrel. If I remember correctly he said it improved his accuracy getting rid of the quick change barrel system.
