New Contest Starting Now! This Target Haunts Me
Tell us about the one that got away, the flier that ruined your group, the zero that drifted, the shot you still see when you close your eyes. Winner will receive a free scope!
Hard to go past the Ares BTR for that money.
I had one on my .223 and used it as my long range varmint rig. The Ares is great for what you’re looking for.
If you’re lamping mate I would get the T3X Superlight in 12 twist if you’re going to be using factory loads. Otherwise I would go same rig with 8 twist and load up the 53 vmax. 5 round mag will service your needs pretty well and the barrel won’t heat up in cool of the UK evenings/nights unless...
Well you could look at a tikka varmint as the standard stock is decent for the light recoil of .223
What is the goal here? As in what are you suing it for? Those little pills will be screaming out of that barrel.
Sounds like a good fox or varmint rig.
Op does also mention that 1st focal plane is an option and budget can stretch to $1100.
That really does bring the ETR into play. It may seem like overkill for 550yds but it has a great reputation and for the money seems very tough to beat and if the opportunity to shoot further arises then 30x...
He’s mounting a Vortex Hs 4-16x50 as he said in op.
You should be able to find an Ares ETR for 1k..... that would be a good combo.
If you’re not shooting past 500, I would grab some Talley Rings. They’re light, inexpensive and great quality
You could have it hydro dipped and then a clear cera cote finish over the top to make it more durable.
Lots of hydro dipping options out there and a clear ceracote finish won’t be expensive.
You could do it yourself though as has been suggested. It just won’t last as well as ceracoat.
Most low rings will work with a rail. The rail depends on how far you’re going to shoot that rifle I guess so even with a 20 moa rail you’ll be fine.
MDT do a nice rail, EGW also and then rings are your your preference for weight/size/look.
If you don’t need a rail then Talley lightweights low...
Remove the o-ring and replaced it with a thinner version.
Worked pretty well but I didn’t like having to do that to get a good feeling on the turrets.
The new Gen 2 versions are much better though so unless you bought? an older model, it won’t be a problem for you.
Turrets are an important factor for me, especially when competing brands are doing them well and glass is close.
I’m liking the overall dimensions of the Stryker too and if the Trijicon was available down here and similar price then I’d try to source one.
This is going on a hunting rifle that...
Thanks for that man.
You’ve nailed my comparison list to a tee!
The only other optic I’m thinking about is the new NX8 Range but I know what they will end up costing down here in NZ and I could nearly buy another Stryker for the same cash and keep it on my sons rifle....
Thanks again for...
Just after some real world opinions on this optic.
I have the chance to buy one but can't view it as it will be an online purchase from another state.
I have read the report from Ilya and that excites me but was after some opinions on long range (over 600) use in the field and the parallax...
This thread is not helping. I’m still trying to make my mind up between a few scopes and now this happens.
Was keen on a Cronus but found a well priced Stryker HD 4.5-30 and was all “whoop whoop!!” ....
That's plenty enough for now.
Worth investing in a trigger spring too. They work really well.
I had a Bell & Carlson stock on my Tikka .223 and it was a real tack driver.
They're getting harder to find down under with the spotlight on anything firearms related but worth it if you can find one...
Used the Outback ammo 55 and Hornady 55 vmax loads most of the time.
The Winchester bulk-box 55 grain soft-point also shot pretty well but wasn't consistent out past 300.
How far are you wanting to shoot?
