Gunsmithing Helicoil action lugs to increase torque?

I have Stuart's book somewhere. I've done many things over the years that in the moment I could yell " Holy Shit I've discovered the secret to the universe" only to find out it wasn't repeatable. There are certain basic things in the accuracy world that matter.

Gunsmithing Helicoil action lugs to increase torque?

"The bigger limitation with actions (not that there is an actual problem) would be thread depth engagement. 1-1/2 x diameter is required & I have a few that are shy of this. A Helicoil also needs 1-1/2 x engagement albeit a larger diameter. The required depth is not going to be available for...

    300 PRC update

I've never had a Ruger through the shop so somebody correct me if I'm wrong. It has 1" diameter threads. If that is indeed true the chamber wall thickness, while it's safe, cannot handle high pressure rounds that diameter. When fired the case expands then the threaded steel tenon expands. If...

    300 PRC update

If you see anything on the case head you've exceeded the yield point of the brass. That can vary from lot to lot and of course between manufacturers. And it happens often with factory ammo. I may be wrong but something doesn't seem quite right with the factory chamber.

Gunsmithing Remington 700 bolt threading question

Some people are more abusive to their equipment. If you're not one of them then threading your bolt handle should work. Most add a long knob which only adds to the potential problem.

    subsonic 308?

The Hornady 190 sub bullet, which are very accurate, will work. I've shot Hornady's 170 30-30 bullet bullet for years until the 190's came out. They don't make that bullet any longer.

    300 PRC update

If a fired case comes out without extreme using measures then it should go back in. What happens when you try and put the fired case back in?

Accessories FS Sig Sauer Cross barrels

Hi, I spoke with my friend at Sig and he said they have 15-20,000 orders now. Crazy The CF is spun the same as Proof. Which is the best way to do it. The thread angle can be adjusted to add strength in different planes. Proof and I'm pretty sure Bartlein just apply it at 45 degree angles...

    300 PRC update

I'll just say it's not a 300 Norma so you shouldn't expect the same velocities using 10 grs less powder. Upper 2800's are all I would expect with reasonable loads. Extreme velocities mean extremely short brass life and to some degree shorter barrel life. Nothing is free. YMMV

    Talley Lightweight 2-piece 20moa

It's an action problem. Talley makes good stuff. I haven't mounted any scopes on the RR actions with Talley's so this may or may not apply to them. Older actions were hand polished and the right rear corner was always rolled over to the right and the rear. I mounted a lot of Talley rings and...

    Talley Lightweight 2-piece 20moa

On a Remington 700 the action profile will affect scope alignment much more than screw hole spacing. The rear bridge is never the same height compared to the front and the profile is never level. They almost always are rolled off to the right rear requiring an L shaped shim to level the base/rings.

Accessories FS Sig Sauer Cross barrels

I have extensions in hand. AMAZING Well designed. The steel contour will be very very close to the Sig's contour. I'm trying to stay on speaking terms with Bartlein so I'm keeping the contours somewhat limited. With that said I'm sure I could get something similar to the Fix 16" light weight...

Gunsmithing Adding LOP to Remington 40X repeater.

If you're intent on shooting it a lot replace the pad. In the future you should be able to reinstall the pad and no one will be the wiser.

That shouldn't be an issue. Cost of an extension is peanuts compared to everything else.

They're reusable. With that being said there is a service life for everything. We think a Rem 700 action lasts forever. I've seen the action lugs deformed from bolt thrust to the point of restricting the action bore.
