I was told he's still doing marketing. Just not running the business.

    Barrel removal problem

Big T-handle and two guys works most of the time. Relief cut is the no risk way. It can be done carefully with a hacksaw.

Butt pad rotation clockwise or counter?

Sorry I saw "butt rotation". All I could think of is are you North or South of the equator. Strange times we live in.

You need to burn that Italian powder to sterilize it before it infects someone.

Gunsmithing Barrel Fluting vs Barrel Stiffness

Minimal difference in cooling. It's not like aluminum finned heads or cylinders on a motor. Once hot it's going to take awhile to get back to ambient temp.

Gunsmithing Barrel Fluting vs Barrel Stiffness

We/they don't have to anymore. 20" barrels are the accepted norm now on 10 1/2 lb guns. 21-22" is what we wanted back when I was active. Even then fluted barrels were not the norm. Also most barrels were button rifled then. Now we know we can get the same accuracy out of a smaller contour...

Gunsmithing Barrel Fluting vs Barrel Stiffness

Lighter can't be stiffer. Now barrels the same weight/length- the fluted barrel will be stiffer. The difference between the two in accuracy will get lost in the noise. I've fluted #2's just for a what if experiment. They shot just fine. Fluting adds sex appeal and not much else. It can have an...

Gunsmithing If not pacific tool and gauge then who?

I've used Manson for decades and added JGS for carbide and some tooling that Dave doesn't make. Both are good.

How should I be cleaning my precision rifle?

Premium quality barrels don't require break in. What you're doing is smoothing out the reamer marks from the chamber reamer cutting the leade angle in the throat. A slight copper wash in the grooves doesn't affect accuracy but I'd keep an eye on it. Copper on top of the lands will continue to...

How should I be cleaning my precision rifle?

There is no such thing as a carbon remover. The chemicals soften it then a brush breaks up what was softened. Depending on caliber I clean from 20-100 rounds. Depends on caliber and the age of the barrel. Big fast boomers, over bore cartridges sooner, slow moderate case capacity to bore cases...

How should I be cleaning my precision rifle?

You need a bore guide. I clean in two steps most of the time. I soak with a carbon softener for a few hours, brush with brass brush, patch out, check for copper by soaking with a copper remover then patch out to look for color(blue). If it's present I soak again with copper remover, then brush...

    Gunsmithing Out-of-round M700 bolthead...

It's the weakest part of the bolt nose. It makes no sense to weaken it further. Clearance is clearance. It doesn't have to be uniform. I've seen a few extractors torn out.

    Gunsmithing 7.5 x 55 Swiss FIELD OR NO-GO GAUGE

I just made up gauging to accurately measure bullet ogive to base measurements on ammo for a single caliber. All measure within .003" on the same bullet at .263" diameter. It is not as easy as buying a $49.95 set from Amazon. A comparator bushing does not equal a precision ring gage. YMMV

That number wouldn't be a reliable comparison to your sleeve. They are not that consistent.

Gunsmithing Barrel stiffness vs Metal Hardness...

Warping is caused by stress in the steel. Stress can be introduced by either the manufacturing process or a hardening process. You don't have a hardening process in barrel steel. Modern barrel steel is stress relieved at the mill. Hardness on the Rc scale is in a narrow window whether CM or...
