I just got my first AR10. Can't believe I found one

Nice looking rifle. One correction. Since 1957, Ar-10 refers to an Armalite rifle in 7.62mm :)

Rifle Scopes scope for up to 500 yards help needed

Here's what is on my list if I don't go 10x. http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-HD-5-20x50-Tactical-30mm-Riflescope-P51653.aspx I'd just like to find out what the FOV is at 10x before I decide.

    Shooting with both eyes open?

That is fine, fine ammo. One of the best available. It is uncanny how well Black Hills shoots in so many different rifles. Still, you could try Federal Premium Gold Medal match loads. At 100yds, I can't imagine you'd see an much of an accuracy difference between 2 Sierra Matchking rounds.

223 AI: expected barrel life & other questions

Yes, you can nitride as a final production step without breakin. That's what the guys at superior barrels do. They start with a true match blank from Douglas. Have it profiled by one of the best match barrel makers,Compass Lake. Then it's nitrided before assembly. You know the barrel...

223 AI: expected barrel life & other questions

Wear on a barrel is determined by: 1. The amount of powder burned (how many BTUs of heat are produced) 2. The diameter of the bore (what area in square inches is exposed to the heat) 3. The pressure of the load (higher pressure increases heat transfer) 4. The heat build up, at a match firing...

223 AI: expected barrel life & other questions

Barrel life is directly related to the composition of the barrel steel, and how that composition (stainless, chrome-moly) resists throat erosion. The throat erosion will be a factor of the powder type and how much velocity you are demanding; i.e. how much powder is fired. Throat erosion is...

    Rifle Scopes Tell me about . . . the U.S. Optics ST17 17x

I know it is no longer in production. :) I've search for reviews on it, and there seems to be so little information out there. If you or a friend had one, or if you know a link to a review, I'd be interested. Was the US Optics ST17 17X Scope a good design? Was it popular? How did it handle...

Rifle Scopes Which one for 10x? IOR Valdada or SWFA SS HD

I will not argue that at a reasonable power, the variable can be quite useful. But against all common sense, one tends to dial up to the max, or dial up and down the range too often, fiddling with the scope instead of shooting better. I want to spend hard-earned cash on a scope of superior...

Buying/Using 8lb Cans of Powder and Lifespan

FYI: Many of Alliant's heirlooms powders like Unique are stored underwater to keep it fresh. When they need to re-animate it, they dry it out, etc. They are able to test burn rates to match new with old. Black powder is actually made wet then dried. If it gets exposed to water later on it can...

Number of Posts went way down

Predator, It's not all about YOU. And if a person has been blasted back down to <100 posts, it's a very big deal. Also, post count is not about "envy" Whether we like it or not, a higher post count causes ppl to regard the poster more favorably, and often enough, their questions will receive...

Rifle Scopes best 400 scope for. 308

Look at the SWFA line of scopes. They are on the "affordable" end of the tactical scope scale. SWFA claims that by removing the middlemen in the distribution process they are able to offer these scopes at a much reduced price. They claim they would run hundred$ more if handled through normal...
